Over the past few years, the world has witnessed Amanda Bynes’ life go on a tailspin, spiraling out of control. Yesterday in a touching open letter to the troubled 27-year-old actress, Nick Cannon offers his old friend his love and support through these difficult times.
In his letter, the America’s Got Talent host, 32, voices his support for his former costar and gives personal insight to the pitfalls of fame.
“Imagine being the breadwinner in your household before you can even drive. Imagine you parents, teachers, and employers NEVER telling you NO. Anything you ask for or want, the world gives you, at some point you are bound to self-destruct. I call this “access to excess." I’ve seen it happen to many of my friends and colleagues young and old. It goes back to that old saying; “Too much of anything is bad for anyone." Whether it’s fame, money, sex, drugs, attention. It’s all a dangerous addiction,” he writes, adding,“When there is no balance in your life a person will always become victim to their reality or lack thereof. The question is, when this destruction occurs, who is there to help put back the pieces.”
Amanda is currently being held under a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold in Ventura, California, after being arrested for starting a fire in a residential driveway.
She and Nick met over a decade ago when they worked together on the hit Nickelodeon TV show All That. The two had remained close friends and Nick even considers her family.
“So I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you’re not alone. I’m here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that’s what family does and that’s what family is for. “
Earlier this week, Nick spoke exclusively to In Touch about Amanda and had nothing but inspirational things to say about her.
"We're just praying for her and hoping for the best," Nick revealed while at the IAMS So Good! event in NYC. "When someone's going through something like this, all you can do is be there for them."
After talking to In Touch, Nick went home to pen the letter to Amanda, which can be viewed in full here.
