The juicy goodness of Gossip Girl is going back in time — and off to the West Coast — in a new spin-off that’s taking a look at the teenage lives of Lily van der Woodsen and Rufus Humphrey (the parents of lead characters Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey), set in the 1980s. Instead of taking any of the actors off the main show, the new pilot will feature all new actors to portray the younger versions of the current show’s stars. “We didn’t want to upset the chemistry of our cast — all of whom are crucial to the show,” GG co-creator Stephanie Savage told The Hollywood Reporter. “Nor did we want to dilute New York City as a character.” Creator Josh Schwartz added, “We love exploring fashion, pop culture, music and a heightened world that’s just a little more fun that the one we actually live in. LA in the '80s totally fits the bill.” So goodbye Upper Eastsiders, hello Hollywood Hillers?
