Seven months after Britney Spears called it quits on her two-year marriage to Kevin Federline, the divorce has been finalized. Papers were filed in Los Angeles today and were signed off by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon.
According to Britney’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, the 25-year-old pop singer and her former husband will continue to share custody of their two sons, Sean Preston, 22 months old, and Jayden James, 10 months old .
"I think she's okay with the terms,” Wasser, said after the hearing. "I think both of them would prefer to have more custody, and that can be worked out down the line."
But a Kevin insider tells In Touch that the 29-year-old rapper is still planning to file for sole custody based on Britney’s troubling behavior of late. “Now that the papers have been signed, Kevin can go in and fight for full custody because it is closed — which he intends to do.
“It will get ugly,” promises the insider. “Once it is 50/50 they can go into court and prove that she is an unfit mother — he’s ready to do battle”
The pair, who wed in a secret ceremony in LA in September 2004, had reached an initial settlement in March regarding the custody of their children, but In June, Kevin resisted signing off on the papers as Britney’s partying led to a stint in rehab.
Though there is no official word on the financial aspects of the divorce, In Touch previously reported that Kevin stood to receive an estimated $14 million.
