The Biggest Loser: What you didn’t see!

BiggestLoser0127.jpg Stephanie Anderson started this season of The Biggest Loser with her mom, Patti, but the team was split up in week two when Patti was sent home. Now on her own, Stephanie will be giving intouchweekly.com readers all the exclusive behind-the-scenes dish every week! In this week’s episode, the Green Team’s Miggy and Migdalia distanced themselves even more from the rest of the house, which was a good lesson on what not to do for everyone. “It’s not a Survivor kind of reality show where it’s all about strategy and alliances, but it is about personal relationships,” Stephanie tells In Touch, noting that she was friendly but not close with the mother-daughter duo, who were eventually split up. But Stephanie spent the week really bonding with another person at the ranch: supportive host Alison Sweeney.

You had a hard time with the first challenge, basically because of bad luck. The key cards you randomly picked just weren’t working.
I didn’t get one until my 10th try, while some people got them on their first, and they were walking! I ended up running 13 laps. I just kept jogging. After the third time, I could tell Alison was definitely feeling for me. I was lapping people, dripping in sweat and really frustrated. After the fifth or sixth time, I kind of just had to laugh at it. I didn’t want to stop or slow down because at that point, some people had two. But then I said, “This show isn’t always about winning, it’s about who can persevere.” I thought," I’m not going to win it, but I’ll prove that I want it just as bad as the person who wins."

It almost seemed like it was fixed!
I asked them that, too! I was like, “Is this torture for me?” I attacked Alison. My friend was watching with me and she said, “Why did you high-five her and look so happy?” I said I was teasing her, like I was going to attack her.

The Red Team won and gave the Green Team the 2-pound disadvantage. Was there extra tension because of that?
Anyone who received a 2-pound disadvantage is going to have an issue with it, but from the beginning, Green and Red never really got along. That’s kind of why this game is not just about losing weight, it's about relationships. There are teams, and Green was one who let it be known that they weren’t there to necessarily make friends.

What was it like doing the last-chance workout outside?
It was brutal! I actually wasn’t feeling well and I remember telling Bob, “I think I’m getting the flu.” He said, “You can get the flu next week!” I was obviously totally fine and part of it was probably mental, but I thought it was great to be outside. It’s all about shocking your body.

Were you disappointed not to get to talk to your family after the reward challenge?
I am super-close to my family. My mom had left two weeks before, but I hadn’t talked to my sister or my dad, and they’re taking care of my dog. It sounds silly, but I’ve had my dog for three years and she’s been my life. She’s part of my family. So I gave everything and I did not stop. I was on the corner of the screen, so you couldn’t really see, but when Gray and Red got to the top, I kept going. I wanted to finish. I got black-and-blue bruises up and down my arms because the only way I could move that was to wrap my arms around it. When Gray won, I was excited, because I had become good friends with Sam and Koli and I had just been talking about how homesick I was. I was having a tough time that week, and I kind of thought I was going to get a call. When I didn’t, I understood why, and I talked to them. I can’t get angry at them for any choice they make. I was just disappointed. Alison came over and gave me a hug and had a little girl-to-girl chat with me. That lifted my spirits. And you move on. It just gave me that much more motivation to do well.

Is that why you thanked Alison after the weigh-in?
Yes! Alison is filming Days of Our Lives she’s doing Biggest Loser and she’s a mom of two, so she’s really busy, but she’s there. She cares. Just like the trainers do. People wonder, “Do Bob and Jillian really care? It must be just for TV.” I say, “No, they genuinely care.” Alison is the same way. She went out of her way to check on me after that challenge and after the pop challenge. She said, “You did so well. I’m so impressed.” To hear that from her really meant a lot to me. Losing six pounds on a week that I was on my own meant something, and I wanted to share it with her.

Did you hesitate to do what Migdalia asked and send her home?
When they came in to speak to us, it was very different from the last three weeks. It was abrasive and in-your-face, like ‘"This is what we want. Do it." I knew that was a defensive mechanism. Migdalia is strong and determined and Migdalia was one of, if not the, biggest competitors for me. I thrived on the fact that she was there. It made me work that much harder. At that point it was like, “If you don’t want to be here, I don’t want you here. I think you’re going to regret this and I personally want you to stay, but your choice is your choice.” In my opinion, the best choice in my opinion for them in terms of the team having a chance to succeed at losing weight and winning the money was keeping Migdalia there. But hey, if you want to give that up, it’s just one step closer for me!
