’90 Day Fiance’: The Valentine’s Day Way! How Your Favorite Stars Are Celebrating V-Day 2023

Cupid strikes! At its core, TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé is a show about love and how love can persevere despite obstacles like immigration laws and distances. Of course, with that comes a little drama! Despite the ups and downs, 90 Day Fiancé stars are gearing up to celebrate Valentine’s Day either single or with a special someone and fans’ favorite cast members like Darcey Silva, Veronica Rodriguez, Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufren and more exclusively reveal to In Touch how they are spending the holiday in 2023.

The premise of 90 Day Fiancé follows the love stories of couples made up of a United States citizen and someone from a foreign country — either from meeting by chance on vacation or meeting online — who are engaged. The U.S. citizen then files for the K-1 visa, which is also known as the “fiancé visa,” which allows the foreigner to legally enter America under the condition that the couple weds within 90 days of their arrival. If the couple doesn’t wed within that timeframe, the foreigner would be required to return to their home country. If they do, the American spouse will then be able to file for their adjustment of status, which turns the K-1 visa into a green card for their spouse.

The various spinoffs of the show continue to follow the married couples as they adjust to their news lives on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? or follows the couples on their journey to meet their spouses for the first time or visit them for one last time before they get engaged/start their visa process on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. The spinoff 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way flips the original show’s premise on its head: instead of the foreigners leaving everything behind to move to America, the Americans leave their lives behind in the United States to move abroad to be with their partners. 90 Day: The Single Life follows singles who were on previous seasons as they look for love again after failed relationships.

Since most of the couples in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise consist of one American citizen and one foreigner, it’s a perfect time for them to share their country’s cultural traditions on holidays like Valentine’s Day. It’s unclear when the day of love, also known as St. Valentine’s Day, originated but it can be traced back to a Christian and Roman tradition, according to History. Valentine’s Day falls on February 14, but the celebration can be traced back to the Pagan festival Lupercalia, which is celebrated on February 15.

Despite the lack of clarity on the holiday’s origins, the first time that St. Valentine’s Day was mentioned as a holiday to celebrate romantic love was in a 1375 poem by Geoffrey Chaucer titled, “Parliament of Foules.”

However, Valentine’s Day is only celebrated on February 14 in a handful of countries in the world, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia, South Africa, Chile, India, Turkey, Poland, Argentina, France, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Denmark, Peru, and China. Other countries celebrate a day of either romantic love or friendship/family love, but on different dates. While each country has its own traditions, most celebrations in the United States include flowers, cards, chocolates and dinner dates.
