90 Day Fiance’s Sumit Celebrates Getting Divorced, But His Parents Won’t Let Him Marry Jenny at ‘Any Cost’
The painful process is over. Sumit Singh was in great spirits after finding out his divorce from his estranged wife was finalized on the Sunday, November 1, episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
Sumit, 32, was already relieved that his ex withdrew the criminal case she had against him, yet worried that some other issue would arise when they faced each other in court again. “Today, my case will go in front of the judge, and I’ll pay [the] rest of the money to my in-laws,” the India native said in his confessional.
The TLC personality’s friend, Rohit, gave him a ride to court and tried to keep Sumit feeling uplifted, reminding him he could be one step closer to marrying Jenny Slatten.
“Today is really huge. This is the reason I came back to India,” Jenny, 61, said while sharing her thoughts on the matter. “I just hope everything goes OK, because time is running out on my visa and I just want to be with the man that I love. We need to get married so I can stay in the country permanently this time.”
Sumit’s father, Anil, was present for the big day in court and had helped his son come up with the $20,000 that Sumit needed to pay his former in-laws. “It is not easy to pay such a big amount. I have gathered the money from my relatives, my friends and the bank,” Anil said, revealing he was happy to be fronting the cash to give Sumit “mental relief” by expediting the process.
“Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom during the proceedings,” a message from producers read across the screen. “Five hours later, the crew caught up with Sumit in his lawyer’s chambers.”
Sumit was calling Jenny in the very next scene to tell her the news and she was overjoyed. “Done! Divorce is done,” he proclaimed on the phone.
“Today is a new beginning to my relationship with Jenny because I’m divorced today and I’m very happy,” the season 2 star added in his confessional, revealing his hopes for a bright future. “I’m feeling very free that this is a time which I can focus [on] what I need to do and how I [am going] to marry Jenny.”
Later on, Sumit had a heart-to-heart with his father about his plans to tie the knot with Jenny. Anil let Sumit know he hadn’t changed his mind about their romance and brought up the couple’s significant age difference again.
“You know about your mother [Sahna]. She’s not going to accept it, at any cost,” Anil said. “And me also. We will stop you legally [from] marrying her. I will not allow you at any cost.”
Viewers will have to wait and see if a wedding is in the cards for Jenny and Sumit.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on TLC.
