Throwing ‘Shade?’ Fans Call Out William and Kate’s Birthday Tribute to Harry Amid Royal Drama
The drama continues! Fans called out Prince William and Duchess Kate‘s birthday tribute to Prince Harry amid royal tension.
“Wishing a very happy birthday to Prince Harry today!” the couple simply wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, September 15. However, someone was noticeably missing: the Duke of Sussex’s wife, Meghan Markle.
“The shade of them using this pic rather than one including his wife,” one user wrote, while another added, “Interesting photo selection! No Meghan … ” and a third observed, “Using a pic of Harry running away. The shade!”
In January, the couple — who share son Archie, 16 months, announced they would be “stepping back as senior members” of the firm. “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” they revealed in a lengthy caption on Instagram, noting that they would “become financially independent.”
Despite criticism, however, Meghan has had “no regrets” about relocating to North America — first to Canada and then to Los Angeles, a source told In Touch exclusively. “She looks and feels amazing.”
The couple fled the U.K. amid relationship challenges with Harry’s brother. “Harry’s accused the royals of treating him and Meghan differently [than] the rest of the family,” a separate source divulged. “Harry thinks it’s unfair that there’s one rule for him and Meghan and another for his cousins. The way he sees it, [Princesses] Eugenie and Beatrice are allowed to have lives outside of the family and are still royals so why can’t he and Meghan?”
That said, it doesn’t seem like Meghan is in any rush to head back to the U.K., especially after purchasing a home in sunny Santa Barbara.
“She hated always having to be dressed to the nines as a royal and the old-fashioned rules and regulations — like wearing dresses below the knee,” a third insider dished of the former Suits star’s style. “She spends most of the day in sweats or yoga pants.”
Here’s hoping Prince Harry is enjoying his birthday with his family, despite the drama.
