ExclusivePrince Harry Is Enjoying Santa Barbara’s ‘Chill’ Vibe After Move: ‘He Was Extremely Unhappy in L.A.’
A sigh of relief. Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle are now living in Santa Barbara after fleeing Los Angeles, and the move seems to have done the royal some good.
“Harry doesn’t know the area well at all, but so far so good,” an insider exclusively tells In Touch. “Santa Barbara is more his scene than LA. It’s peaceful and chill. He has the freedom and space he needs. Harry was extremely unhappy in LA.”
The insider adds that the couple, who share son Archie, 15 months, “moved there in mid-July and kept it a secret because of all the hassle they’ve been getting from the [paparazzi],” however, they “knew it would eventually get out.”
The former senior members of the royal family spent time in Canada, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara before finally putting down roots. Despite tension within the firm, a source previously told In Touch Meghan has “no regrets” about leaving the U.K. behind and starting fresh in North America. “She looks and feels amazing.”
Not to mention, the Suits alum loves not having to be “constantly dressed to the nines,” a third insider dished. “Meghan’s gotten used to dressing down. On a day-to-day basis, she wears jeans or yoga pants, big sweaters and flats or sneakers, which she feels comfortable and relaxed in, and keeps her makeup minimal,” the source revealed of the duchess’ new dress code. She “hated” abiding by “old-fashioned rules and regulations.”
The move came just weeks before the new tell-all book, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family, was published. Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand — who did not consult Harry, 35, or Meghan, 39, before its release on August 11 — spilled information on the pair, ranging from how they met to Prince William‘s reservations about Meg.
No wonder they wanted to move! Though the parents are still “settling in” to their new neighborhood, and “haven’t ventured out much,” they’re looking forward to checking out the “local hotspots,” the first insider concludes. “I’m sure Harry can’t wait to take a trip to the vineyards,” … and we’re sure they could use a drink.
