Looks like all isn’t well in the bush! On Sunday, September 15, Alaskan Bush People star Bear Brown revealed that his dad, Billy Brown, has been dealing with some scary situations regarding his health. In a video post, he let fans in on the news that the wilderness-loving patriarch needed to undergo surgery to address some of those situations. Though we’ve seen Billy struggle with health issues on the Discovery Channel show, his son shed light on what he’s been going through recently.

“Hey, everybody! We’ve been going through some major medical issues with my dad,” Bear, 32, captioned his Instagram post. “He got out of surgery yesterday, but it looks like he’s going to be needing more [tests]! Thanks everybody for sticking with my family and for all y’all guys’ support! God bless!” In the video itself, he shared much the same, clarifying that 66-year-old Billy’s medical needs are the reason the family is currently “still in town.”

Bear’s former fiancée, Raiven Adams, was the one to first reveal that they’d temporarily left the bush behind. “The bush life is everything this family stands for,” the 21-year-old model told fans on her private Instagram account. “But due to a health situation, we are in town and can’t wait to get back to our beautiful mountain view.” Her statement echoed one Rain Brown has shared in the past. In April, the 16-year-old confirmed to fans that they live on the mountain “full time,” but occasionally need to leave their isolated land if “there’s something medical going on.”

The family is no stranger to handling health issues. When mom Ami Brown was diagnosed with cancer, they packed up all of their belongings and moved to Los Angeles, California so that she could get treatment at UCLA Medical Center. Fans followed their journey through her recovery — and the Brown family finding a new home that wasn’t quite so remote in case of future emergencies — on seasons 8 and 9. In August 2018, reports revealed the matriarch was doing amazing, and she finally celebrated her first cancer-free birthday with her kids.

“Dear Mommy, happy birthday to the greatest woman I know!!!” Rain shared with a sweet Instagram post. “You inspire me beyond compare. If I turn out to be anything like you, my life would have purpose. You listen to me even when I’m having an anxiety attack over the dumbest things; you comfort me just by being in the room. You mean absolutely the world to me and I would be lost without you. It’s been an amazing honor to not only know a legend such as you, but to call her mommy. I can’t wait until we’re both super old [ladies] together sipping tea with the grandkids. ♥️”
