The Duggar daughters are no strangers to mom-shaming, so in her latest Instagram post, Joy-Anna Duggar tried to get ahead of it all. When she posted a photo of her son, Gideon, seemingly sipping iced coffee out of a to-go cup, she joked that maybe she shouldn’t be giving it to him. “A little coffee to get him through the day. ☕️Or maybe not … He already has more energy than I can keep up with,” she teased. In the hashtags, she added the notes, “No coffee for him,” and, “So much energy.”

Despite that, though, fans were still upset by the post, and they took to the comments to tell Joy, 21, all about it. “Cute shot, but you don’t give a one year old coffee or pop,” one wrote. “He is too young for coffee, ☕️” scolded another. “You should not give him coffee, but so cute,” chimed in a third. Luckily, the Counting On star had plenty of defenders, too.

“It’s clearly a joke,” explained a commenter. Another even referenced the star’s older sister Jessa Duggar, who had her own experience with mommy-shamers accusing her of giving her son something inappropriate to drink. Back in July 2015, she shared a video of her son Henry making funny faces as he drank out of a bottle. “Pretty much the exact same reaction I had to La Croix the first time I tried it,” she joked in the post caption, imitating herself as she wrote, “OK, I’ll try it, but just give me a tiny bit! Wow … Definitely not Fanta. Not too bad, though. Let me have another sip.”

One fan didn’t find the humor in it, writing, “Please tell me you don’t give him Fanta.” Jessa, 26, was a pro when it came to dealing with the parenting police by then, and she shot back, “No, he prefers coffee and energy drinks. … And of course I’m joking. He only drinks breast milk and water.” Maybe next time the “sanctimommies” (as one fan called them) come for Joy, Jessa can help her come up with the perfect response.
