Fans have been speculating that 90 Day Fiancé couple Jonathan Rivera and Fernanda Flores called it quits, and now he’s finally confirming their separation in an interview with In Touch. The TLC star, 32, revealed that he wishes Fernanda nothing but the best going forward.
“I haven’t spoken to Fernanda since December 22,” Jonathan tells In Touch while discussing their relationship status. “I have a lot going on and so in the midst of all the craziness, I try to focus on what’s important.” The reality star said that some things transpired between them in recent weeks, but he didn’t want to go into detail out of respect for his estranged wife.
Going forward, Jonathan strives to be a lot more careful about his family and decisions, but he did want to set the record straight about some misconceptions when it comes to his marriage. “My feelings for Fernanda were real and Fernanda’s feelings for me were real. Fernanda’s not a gold digger. Fernanda didn’t come here for a green card,” he tells In Touch. “What happened was things change, things change and people change and I can’t help that.”
The TLC star added, “I don’t know how to help someone from changing who they are or who they were. Also, she’s young, 20 years old. You have a tendency to continue to grow, you want different things as time goes on and I can’t blame her for that.” Jonathan said that he always supported Fernanda’s dreams no matter what, and added how he was her biggest fan. “She can tell you that,” he said.
Jonathan and Fernanda exchanged their vows on the Season 6 finale of 90DF, and viewers started theorizing they split when they appeared to celebrate New Year’s Eve separately. Jonathan explained how sharing his love story with the world has been a very bittersweet experience, due to the constant backlash and swirling rumors, but he doesn’t regret doing the show at all. In fact, he’s grown thicker skin because of it and is grateful for his fan base.
“I really appreciated all the support that I’ve seen on my Instagram and the people who can tell that I genuinely love Fernanda,” Jonathan says. “I gave it everything I had. I think that was very apparent in the show. None of that was edited, that was my heartfelt feelings. You know you can only give so much until you start giving yourself away…What I’m saying is, I guess there was a point where I realized it was never going to be enough.”
Despite everything that’s gone down between them, Jonathan hopes he and Fernanda can amicably resolve this situation and have great lives individually. “Overall, I’m positive about 2019,” he said. “I’m excited to be able to focus on building my business back and expanding on other opportunities for the new year.”
In Touch has reached out to Fernanda for comment.
