Adriana Lopez — a fourth grade teacher at PS22 in New York City who is currently battling cancer — was not expecting the emotional surprise she received from her students.
She's made such a significant impact on the school, that the chorus director, Gregg Breinberg, organized a special end-of-year tribute for the 48-year-old. The young singers serenaded her to Martina McBride's “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”
"She's one of those teachers. She's one of the unsung heroes, and it was time for her to be sung to,” he told Today on Wednesday.
Gregg invited her into their last practice of the year and surprised her, a moment that brought Adriana to tears.

"It's not easy but I will get through it because I have wonderful friends at this school," she said after.
The video has since gone viral and even garnered the attention of the country singer, who paid tribute to the cancer-stricken teacher with this tweet.
Music is so powerful and I am blessed to have been given this song. Thanks P22 Chorus and much love to Adriana Lopez http://t.co/O2Nn0ghg4k— Martina McBride (@martinamcbride) July 22, 2015
