Does he want her back? Cody Simpson shared a cryptic message on Twitter one week after Miley Cyrus confirmed their split. In a clip posted on the social media site, he serenaded his watchers with Frank Sinatra’s song “I’ll Be Around” on Thursday, August 20.

“I’ll be around no matter how you treat me now,” Cody, 23, sang as he played the guitar. “I’ll be around from now on. Your latest love can never last, and when it’s past, oh, I’ll be around when he’s gone.”

Other lyrics in the Sinatra tune include lines about the subject of the song realizing they’re meant to be with the singer, so it’s hardly a stretch to see why some fans are connecting the post to his recent breakup. Miley, 27, addressed the split on August 13 during an Instagram Live. Though she confirmed they had gone their separate ways, she also seemed to hint that they might still share a future.

“For right now, two halves can’t make a whole, and we’re individually just working on ourselves, becoming the people that we want to be. Like everybody else at this age, we’re just deciding who we want to be with our lives, what we want to do with our lives,” she shared. “And so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we hang out and we’re getting pizza. We’ve been friends for 10 years, and we’re going to continue to be friends. Just don’t make it something that it is not.”

Both musicians have been clear about the fact that their friendship comes first, even after they put their romance aside. When Miley dropped her new single, “Midnight Sky,” on August 14, her ex did his best to support her by sharing the track on his Instagram Story. “So proud of you. Congratulations to the most special of all,” he told her. Speaking to fans, he urged, “Go cop that new, new!”

The singers’ followers are glad to see that both Cody and his ex are able to keep things friendly — especially in the wake of the Hannah Montana alum’s revelations about her marriage to Liam Hemsworth. During an August 14 interview with SiriusXM Hits 1, Miley called the split “traumatic.” Working on her new music has helped her get through it, and hopefully continuing to flex her creative muscles will allow her to process her latest split. It certainly seems like Cody is back in the studio, too. “Writing,” he tweeted simply on August 14.
