Speaking her truth. Miley Cyrus opened up about her “traumatic” split from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 on Friday, August 14.

“Losing the house in Malibu and going through a really public breakup — I think I just really needed some clarity,” the 27-year-old said, add that her new song “Midnight Sky” was inspired by her split and her journey to sobriety. “It was just really important to me to be able to like really sit with my thoughts.”

Referring to the coronavirus pandemic, she added, “I think one thing that’s been really cool about this time that we’ve all had is, I think originally we all started literally cleaning house. And then once you couldn’t do that anymore, you had to go into your own self and start cleaning out what you’ve been holding onto for too long — things that belong to you, and things that don’t, and things that no longer serve you,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer explained. “And that was really, really healthy for me. And I don’t think I could have done that if my mom hadn’t smoked all my weed, and I didn’t have any left.”

While sobriety was the best way for her to find peace after her tough breakup, she emphasized how everyone’s path is unique to them. “One thing I have grown into is that when I feel one thing is right for me never preach that it’s right for everybody else,” she stressed. “You just definitely want to feel like you are just in control of your own life and not trying to control anyone else’s.”

In August 2019, In Touch confirmed Miley and Liam, 30, split after only eight months of marriage and 10 years as an on-and-off again couple. Their divorce was finalized in January 2020.

Although the pair went their separate ways, they definitely still hold a special place in each other’s hearts. During an interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast also released on Friday, August 14, the “Unholy” singer revealed she lost her virginity to her “Last Song” costar.

Shortly after their breakup, Miley went on to date The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn Carter. “I feel like, as a woman, I was villainized for moving on,” she told “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper. “They made me seem like I was disloyal, which is so against my f—king character. You attack my f—king character, and my character is everything. It’s my foundation.”

While her romance with the reality star “made [her] really happy at the time,” they split after one month of dating. “There’s no handbook about how to deal with heartbreak,” she added.

Following her split from Kaitlynn, she started seeing singer Cody Simpson in October 2019. The two seemed to be going strong after spending the holidays and quarantine together.

On Wednesday, August 13, In Touch confirmed the pair broke up after less than a year of dating. “I did hear that Miley initiated the breakup. Cody didn’t want the relationship to end, but Miley calls the shots,” a source exclusively told In Touch. “I’m hearing that nothing major happened, no other party broke them up,” the insider continued. “She had a lot of fun with Cody, but she decided it was best to go their separate ways and remain friends.” Miley has since confirmed their breakup herself while on Instagram Live.

Although Miley has dealt with a lot of love and loss in the public eye, it’s clear she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks!
