Moving on. Miley Cyrus confirmed her split from Cody Simpson after 10 months of dating during an Instagram Live on Thursday, August 13.

“Today it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up,” the pop star, 27, said ahead of the release of her new single, “Midnight Sky.”

“For right now, two halves can’t make a whole, and we’re individually just working on ourselves, becoming the people that we want to be. Like everybody else at this age, we’re just deciding who we want to be with our lives, what we want to do with our lives,” Miley continued. “And so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we hang out and we’re getting pizza. We’ve been friends for 10 years, and we’re going to continue to be friends. Just don’t make it something that it is not.”

Hours later, Cody took to his own Instagram to gush over his now ex-girlfriend. “So proud of you. Congratulations to the most special of all,” the 23-year-old wrote on his Story, referring to the blonde babe’s new tune. “Go cop that new, new!”

On Thursday, August 13, In Touch confirmed the couple broke up just shy of a year of dating. “It’s true, Miley and Cody are over,” a music source close to the songstress exclusively revealed. “I did hear that Miley initiated the breakup. Cody didn’t want the relationship to end, but Miley calls the shots.”

“I’m hearing that nothing major happened, no other party broke them up,” the insider continued. “She had a lot of fun with Cody, but she decided it was best to go their separate ways and remain friends.”

Previously, Cody gushed about what drew him to the former Disney star. “She’s creative, she’s very passionate about what she does, and I’m very similar in that sense, that’s why we get along so well,” he told In Touch and other reporters at the Tiffany & Co. Men’s Collections Launch at the Hollywood Athletic Club in October 2019.

“We just have a ball and that’s the most important part of a relationship. It’s like … we’ve been friends … the reason why it’s not like … it hasn’t been a really crazy sudden thing is we’ve been friends for so long that when we sort of found each other again in a space where … we both met back in the day when we were partying a lot,” he said. “We had a lot of fun then. But now we’ve found each other in a space where we’re not partying, working real hard and just like keeps things healthy.”

Miley found comfort in the arms of the “Golden Thing” singer following her “public” split from The Hills alum Kaitlynn Carter and breakup from ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. She and Liam finalized their divorce in January 2020.
