Completely blindsided. Below Deck Mediterranean star Christine “Bugsy” Drake admitted she was shocked after finding out Hannah Ferrier had been fired from the superyacht.

“It wasn’t really something I had expected was gonna happen,” Bugsy, who was promoted to chief stew after Hannah’s departure, told E! News on Wednesday, August 26. “Obviously, it came very out of the blue to me and, at that point, it was just time to hit the ground running. We had to carry on amidst all the drama that was going on.”

On the August 17 episode of the Bravo show, fans saw Captain Sandy Yawn fire the veteran chief stew after bosun Malia White reported her for having an undeclared prescription for Valium and a CBD pen on board. Although Bugsy said she was the “last to find out that [Hannah had] actually left the boat,” Captain Sandy promoted Bugsy from second stew to fill Hannah’s shoes.

While Bugsy has been a chief stew in the past, she was “obviously a bit nervous” to take Hannah’s spot. “I think there’s a lot more pressure that comes with being a chief stew on camera,” she told the outlet. “I think it adds that extra layer of just being more aware of your surroundings and the kind of way you lead your team and the way you come across.”

Despite Hannah and Bugsy’s tumultuous relationship over the years, the blonde beauty said the two made amends before Hannah — who is expecting her first baby — said farewell. “You don’t get to see it on the show, but Hannah did say goodbye to me and we both kind of agreed that it was good that we got to start over.”

Although she was surprised by the series of events, Bugsy still supported Malia’s decision to turn in her bunkmate. “She knows more about the Maritime laws and the more serious side of yachting,” Bugsy explained. “I think she did what she had to do and, you know, I can’t judge her on that.”

Aside from Hannah’s dramatic exit, it seems like everything worked out for the best. “She’s very happy and I couldn’t be happier for her becoming a mum,” Bugsy shared. “Because, I think that’s been a long time coming and that’s what she’s really wanted. It’s a bigger title to take on than a Chief Stew and I think she’ll be good at it.”
