Housewives of New
Jersey’ Stars Joe and
Teresa Giudice Close
to Plea Deal - With
Joe Facing Minimum
Five Years in Prison
In Touch Weekly can exclusively reveal that lawyers for Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe are close to a plea deal with the U.S. Attorney’s office.
A source close to the case revealed that if the judge accepts the deal, Joe will serve a minimum of five years in federal prison while Teresa is looking at a maximum of five years probation.
They were both facing up to 50 years in prison.
In addition, the couple will have to pay up to $11 million in restitution and, as it stands, Joe will not be deported.
The Giudices have been battling a series of legal woes since they were charged with 39 counts of fraud last July and two additional counts in November.
After pleading not guilty, Teresa opened up to In Touch in November about staying strong for her four daughters rather than fearing the future.
“You’ve got to keep living life and being positive,” she said at the time. “You can’t just curl up in a ball and crawl into a hole. What’s that going to do? I want the kids to enjoy their childhood. And to be the best mom I can be.”
A source close to the case tells In Touch that Joe and Teresa are scheduled to appear in federal court on Tuesday, when the judge will decide whether or not to accept the plea deal.
