She’s setting the record straight! Leah Messer made sure to clear up a misconception about her custody agreement with her first ex-husband, Corey Simms. The Teen Mom 2 star revealed she never lost custody of her 8-year-old twin daughters, Ali and Aleeah, despite rumors otherwise. The mother-of-three explained how it luckily didn’t get that far. “The current custody situation, just honestly…whatever we think is best for them, we do. We are doing the week on and then a week off,” the MTV star told Us Weekly. “It’s always been 50/50. People were like, ‘Leah lost custody.’ I almost did, but I never lost custody of my children.”

Tension between Leah, 26, and Corey, 29, reached a boiling point in 2015. During Season 6, he called her out for not getting their daughters to kindergarten on time. The reality star claims this only happened once, but she said their heated custody battle was the “lowest point” in her life.

“If anyone knows me they know that when it comes to being a mom and my girls, they are my life,” the mother-of-three explained to Us. “I wasn’t in the greatest place mentally and then it was affecting me physically, like it almost cost me my children.”

Leah said those painful feelings haunted her and she became suicidal at the time. “It was a struggle,” she admitted. On the plus side, the former flames have worked out a much better co-parenting deal today, and she said things are “going well” between them.

The TM2 star is looking forward to sharing her experience and how she grew from it on her upcoming podcast: Life Reboot. “Every high and low in my life,” she told Us. “That’s what I’m most excited to share and truly help others with things that may be going through the same things.”

“At the end of the day do what’s best for the kids,” Leah added. “They’re the ones that matter.” The reality star lives by that motto, as she and her other ex, Jeremy Calvert, 29, have also worked out a good situation that benefits their five-year-old daughter Addie.

“We are great parents and that’s all we’ll ever be,” Leah said. “We’re great co-parents together.” On Oct. 9, she shared a precious photo of all three of her daughters spending the day together captioned: “It doesn’t get any better than this.”
