From Reality Star to Media Mogul: See Kim Kardashian’s Transformation Over the Years

Time flies! In 2006, Kim Kardashian was known as Paris Hilton‘s best friend and an aspiring closet organizer. These days, however, Kim K. is a household name and rakes in millions from her family’s Hulu reality series to KKW Beauty, Skims and more.

Of course, now that the reality babe’s net worth is a whopping $1.8 billion … yeah, let’s just let that sink in for a second … her look has evolved, too.

The up-and-coming lawyer burst onto the scene in the early ’00s, and since then, her fashion choices have gone from Juicy Couture tracksuits to custom Balmain. The mom of four — who shares kids North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm with ex-husband Kanye West — is not afraid to shy away from daring clothing choices, often opting for outlandish prints or cut-outs.

Ahead of the Met Gala in May 2019, Kim went as far as taking “breathing lessons” in her corset. “The day that I found out the Met Gala theme was ‘camp,’ that same day we called @manfredthierrymugler, the King of Camp!” she wrote on Instagram. “We met up in Miami right after the holidays last year and saw the sketches! I learned so much about couture from this genius man, it was beyond couture, it was art! 7 months in the making and fittings in Montreal, Paris and L.A. Corset breathing lessons from none other than Mr. Pearl. It was worth it all!!! And this was the start of a magical inspiring connection.”

Three years later, Kim upped her Met Gala fashion game when she donned Marilyn Monroe’s infamous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress, which was designed by Bob Mackie, to the 2022 event.

The SKKN founder detailed the strict weight loss regimen she endured in order to fit into the dress that could not be “altered at all.”

“I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein,” Kim told Vogue ahead of the event adding that “it was this or nothing.”

Following her CFDA Influencer Award in 2018, designer Tommy Hilfiger gave Kim high praise for her style. “Kim is the most important and powerful influencer in the world,” he wrote in a press release at the time. “Every time she wears, posts or talks about a fashion brand, there is an immediate and significant increase in both awareness and sales.”

In the past, big sister Kourtney Kardashian said, “Fashion is so subjective, and I think it should be playful,” while Kylie Cosmetics mogul Kylie Jenner claimed she changes her style “maybe every month.” Must be nice being a Kar-Jenner, huh?
