Way to Go, SKIMS!! Kim Kardashian Announces the New Name of Her Shapewear Brand After Backlash
Take two. After Kim Kardashian received major backlash for the original title of her shapewear collection, Kimono, the 38-year-old promised fans she would change it to something more PC. On Monday, August 26, she took to Instagram to announce the new name of her collection: SKIMS Solutionwear.
“My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name,” the reality star wrote. “After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™ coming September 10.”
“I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies,” she continued. So far, it looks like fans approve of the new title and the brand’s body inclusivity.
When the KKW mogul previously announced the launch of her collection back in June, Kim’s comments were flooded with angry users. “I feel very sad that the name ‘Kimono’ is being used to something completely different from what we Japanese know about it. Kimono is Japanese traditional clothes, and we are very proud of its history and culture. I’m sorry, but I feel this name choice is simply ignorant. #KimOhNo,” read one of the many rants.
Kim took the criticism with stride and vowed to make a change. “When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind,” she wrote on Twitter in July. “My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name.”
And as she promised, SKIMS was born. The brand of shapewear aims to give the public Kim’s greatest undergarment secrets. “[SKIMS] is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work,” wrote the star. “I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapewear color that blended with my skin tone, so we needed a solution for all of this,” Kim said.
Thankfully, now everyone is a winner with the new brand name for a highly desired product! We can’t wait to give them a try and feel our best like Kim intended.
