Jana Duggar Claims She and Lawson Bates Are 'Not a Thing'

Seems like Jana Duggar just sunk our ship! Ever since the Duggar daughter joined Instagram on January 10, rumors have been swirling that there might be something romantic going on between her and Lawson Bates. Though Jessa Duggar claimed that her big sis is “not in a relationship” with anyone, we weren’t ready to believe it — especially when Jana and Lawson would be so cute together. Now, however, Jana is squashing whatever hope we had left that these two could really be a couple.

After she posted her latest Instagram and Lawson commented three grinning emojis, Counting On fans couldn’t help but hope it meant a courtship announcement was on its way. “I’m not much into matchmaking, but I’ve always thought you two would be so cute together!” wrote one. Another added, “I heard you and Jana are a thing!” That’s about when the star herself, 29, decided to step in and set the story straight. “No, we’re not a thing,” she wrote back with a smiling emoji of her own.

Of course, this all comes on the heels of the Bringing Up Bates star’s family “liking” a comment about the pair potentially courting. The social media interaction seemed to confirm to fans that their crossover dreams were coming true, but unfortunately, that is likely not the case. After all, it wasn’t long until Lawson explained that it was just an “accidental” like. “My mom was scrolling through late last night and didn’t realize what she was liking,” he told In Touch. “Meanwhile, Instagram 101 for my mom is now in session.”

Okay, so they may not be together. But does that mean they’ll never get together? If Jessa meant it when she said that it was more of a coincidence than a rule that the Duggars don’t make Instagram accounts until they’re at least courting, it means that Jana likely is still single. And if Lawson is still single, too, then there’s still hope — right? We’ll move on from this idea one day, we swear. It just won’t be today.
