’90 Day Fiancé’ Star Chantel Once Gushed About Her Meet-Cute With Pedro
Did their love story begin with a meet-cute, or was it all just a setup? 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? stars Chantel Jimeno (née Everett) and her husband, Pedro Jimeno, are continuing to bring the drama on their new TLC spinoff, The Family Chantel. The couple is finally addressing all of their marital issues head-on this season, including the issues with each other’s families. They’re also confronting the huge bombshell shocker that was revealed during season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? when Pedro’s family friend, Obed Corporan, claimed that Pedro’s mom, Lidia, and sister, Nicole, planned for Pedro to meet an American girl like Chantel so they could get married and he could move to the United States. But how exactly did Pedro and Chantel meet?
When they were first introduced to fans on 90 Day Fiancé season 4 back in 2016, Chantel gushed about how she met Pedro. “I was interested in learning Spanish and I had a friend introduce me to Pedro. He’s from the Dominican Republic. The idea was for me to learn Spanish and for Pedro to learn English. But when I first saw him online, I was attracted to him right away. So I decided to visit him in the Dominican Republic,” Chantel, 27, said at the time. “I thought that I was just going to have a little fun on vacation, but I fell in love. On the third trip, he proposed.”
And the rest is history! The couple seemed to have a lot of physical chemistry right off the bat, and they even discussed what their first kiss was like during a TLC video segment — and Chantel and Pedro seemed to have very different views about how it happened.
In the clip, the couple playfully reminisced on their first kiss, which happened seconds after they met each other in person for the first time. “The first time we met, you kissed me right when I got off the plane and I was like, ‘I don’t even know this guy,’” Chantel said. But Pedro, 27, remembered it differently. “No, you kissed me first,” he told his wife. “No no no, you kissed me first baby, okay?”
Chantel said Pedro was waiting for her in the airport with flowers, and he walked right up to her and kissed her. But Pedro claims that they had previously discussed their first kiss before he made his move. “You telling first, ‘You want kiss me?’” Pedro said. “You say first, remember what you say? ‘You kiss me the first time you see me?’ And I say, ‘Yes,’” Pedro recalled.
Chantel smiled and explained that it may have been a miscommunication because she didn’t speak Spanish well enough at the time. “We were just flirting and I was just like, ‘Oh, okay this is going to be cute.’ But I didn’t know you were actually going to do it! I didn’t know you were serious about it. I thought it was just a little flirt,” Chantel explained.
“Okay, I asking, ‘Baby, what do you want for the first time I see you, you want [me to] kiss you?’ and you say, ‘Yes! Okay, it doesn’t matter one kiss. ‘[But], you like the kiss, I know,” Pedro said and Chantel laughed. It looks like fans will have to wait to find out if Pedro and Chantel’s meeting was by fate or if it was planned.
The Family Chantel airs on TLC Mondays at 10 p.m. ET.
