Miley Cyrus Splits From Boyfriend Cody Simpson 10 Months After Going Public With Romance
Say it ain’t so! Miley Cyrus and boyfriend Cody Simpson split 10 months after going public with their relationship, a source tells In Touch on Thursday, August 13.
It may come as a surprise to some fans because Miley, 27, and Cody, 23, appeared to be smitten with each other in all of their lovey-dovey social media posts. However, in recent weeks, they haven’t appeared on each other’s Instagram grids.
News of the couple’s breakup comes shortly before Miley’s highly anticipated single “Midnight Sky” from her forthcoming album is about to be released.
“Forever and ever no more. The #MidnightSky is the road I’m taking … head up high in the clouds,” she tweeted ahead of its debut on August 10.
Fans are optimistic the duo will be friendly post-split because he previously described the Hannah Montana alum as the “strongest, most beautiful [and] extraordinary woman I’ve ever met” in a heartfelt birthday tribute back in March.
In April, she was all smiles while shaving off his hair and showing off his new look. “Buzzin. Clean cuts for clean oceans, I say,” he captioned the clip.
The pop stars made their romance public in early October 2019. After she confirmed she was dating Cody, she quickly began packing on the PDA and sharing steamy photos with him. Their relationship began weeks after she and Kaitlynn Carter split in late September. Prior to dating The Hills star over the summer, she was with her now-estranged husband Liam Hemsworth. Miley and Liam, 29, were together on and off for 10 years — 8 months of which they spent married — and they called it quits in August. After two breakups, Miley sought comfort from Cody, who was there for her.
“Miley and Cody are old friends,” a source previously told In Touch. “Right now she needs someone she can trust and rely on and Cody is that guy, he gets her. He’s super sweet, tall and Australian — just like her ex Liam. So there’s that!”
Last year, he gushed over the songwriter while opening up about their romance. “I’m very happy. Yeah, I’m very, very happy,” Cody told In Touch and other reporters in October. “She’s creative. She’s very passionate about what she does and I’m very similar in that sense, that’s why we get along so well. We just have a ball and that’s the most important part of a relationship.”
Around the same time, Liam moved on with Maddison Brown, whom he was first spotted out with on October 10 — shortly after Cody and Miley began dating. Since then, the actor has moved on with new girlfriend, Gabriella Brooks.
