The gift that keeps on giving! Mike Sorrentino opened up about his road to “recovery” in an inspiring new YouTube video, which was released on “The Situations” Twitter page on February 7. The Jersey Shore star is currently serving an eight-month prison sentence for tax evasion, but he was all smiles while taking a trip with his wife, Lauren Sorrentino, to deliver meals and talk with the residents of the Phoenix Recovery Sober House on Dec. 19.

“I was known to be, ya know, one of the bigger partiers on Jersey Shore, so I had to think in my brain, ‘how was I going to contribute to the show if it even gets popular?’ You don’t even know if people are going to watch the show again,” Mike, 36, shared about the reboot. “So, I just said to myself ‘I’m going to have to continue to challenge myself in my recovery,'” Mike added. “My base was two years sober, I had the sponsor, I had a good support system at home with my wife.”

Mike said it took him until his thirties to realize that he had an “obsessive” personality. “Any substance I was going to do to excess, what you have to do is change your behaviors from negative ones to positive ones, slowly one day at a time,” he said. The MTV reality also discussed how he tries not to dwell on negative thoughts, even during tough times. Mike said that he hopes to “better himself by reading more and writing a book” while behind bars.

Lauren, 34, revealed that watching Mike’s recovery has taught her to “live one day at a time.” Despite the time they have to spend apart, Lauren explained how she’s staying strong and positive. The couple was doing the holiday visit as part of his effort to work with and talk to Shore groups about his ongoing recovery. Meanwhile, Mike is now serving time at Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York and his prison release date is reportedly set for September 13, 2019.
