What is she getting at here? Meri Brown shared a cryptic message on her Instagram Story on September 20 and we’re wondering if it hinted at anything going on in her life. “Give. But don’t allow yourself to be used,” the Sister Wives star wrote. “Love. But don’t allow your heart to be abused. Trust. But don’t be naive. Listen. But don’t lose your own voice.” Hmm. Interesting.

Sister Wives fans have been wondering for a while what’s going on with Meri, 48, in regards to her life with her husband, Kody Brown, and fellow wives. She seems to be away from Flagstaff, Arizona a lot, which is where the family relocated from Las Vegas. Most recently, she took a trip to Brian Head Peak in Utah and didn’t appear to go with any of her family members.

That wouldn’t be so notable — spouses are allowed to take trips without one another, after all — except that it’s not the first time Meri has made it appear on social media that she was doing her own thing with no sign of her husband or the other wives. She also made it clear in an episode of the TLC show that the bed and breakfast she runs in Parowan, Utah is entirely under her control and no one else’s. In a confessional, she said, “This is my baby. They don’t care about the house or the bed and breakfast business. Once I get this house done, I don’t want to have any more business meetings about my house. I want to run my business my way.”

So, is something going on between Meri and the other Brown spouses? Has she been burned, hence the message about not being “used” or giving up your “voice?” Well, a former friend of fellow wife Robyn Brown, Kendra Pollard-Parra, did tell In Touch exclusively in March, “Meri does live separately from everyone. She’s never with them. She’s only with them to film. Her whole focus is on her career with LuLaRoe, which she’s very successful at, and her daughter … She’s literally all on her own.”

Between that and both Meri and Christine Brown admitting they’re still “working” on their relationship — plus Meri and Kody’s past marital issues — we wouldn’t be surprised if all is still not well between the first wife and her family members.
