Clearing the air. Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry explained the custody situation between her and ex Chris Lopez in the midst of the former couple’s social media fight after he cut their son Lux’s hair without her permission.

In the comments of Teen Mom Shade Room‘s repost of Kail’s now-deleted Instagram Live where she shared details about the incident, fans discussed whether Chris, 26, should have communicated with Kail, 28, about their son’s hair before cutting it. One fan felt that if Chris had custody of Lux, 3, then he has as much right as Kail does to make decisions about their son’s appearance as Kail does.

“He does not have custody,” the MTV star explained in response to the fan on Sunday, September 6. “He has supervised visits.”

Just one day prior, Kail took to her Instagram Story to share a “before” and “after” picture of her son’s hair. In the “before” photo, Lux’s long, wavy hair fell just below his waist. In the “after” picture, several inches of his length had been chopped to right at his shoulder blades, and his waves had been snipped.

“Parenting with a narcissist be like … Control tactic,” the mother of four captioned the “after” photo on September 5. In her Instagram Live later that day, Kail explained that she sent Lux to visit one of Chris’ family members, which is when the incident occurred.

Kail and Chris have had a tumultuous, on-off relationship since 2015. After they welcomed their first child together in August 2017, Kail changed Lux’s last name to Lowry because she claimed the Delaware native was not an active parent in Lux’s life. It seemed like the exes were back on good terms in July 2019, when they were spotted on vacation together with Lux and Kail’s sons from previous relationships, 10-year-old Isaac and 6-year-old Lincoln.

Things went from bad to worse between Kail and Chris shortly after their reunion. In January 2020, Chris was arrested for allegedly violating a protective order that was filed against him in 2019. He was charged with criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order and was released the same day after posting $5,000 bail.

In March, Kail announced she was expecting baby No. 4 and Chris was later revealed to be the father. That same month, Kail confirmed to Us Weekly that she currently has a protection from abuse order against Chris. “Legally, I’m not able to go into detail,” she told the outlet at the time. “Domestic violence and narcissism are very real subjects, and when I’m in the place to be able to offer advice, I will.”

Even though Kail told fans she had not been in contact with Chris during her pregnancy, she had a change of heart and invited him to their son’s birth after previously telling fans he would not be allowed to attend. Kail and Chris welcomed their second child, son Romello Creed, together on July 30.

“I just feel like, if I didn’t allow him to be there in that moment, I would never have the opportunity — neither one of us would have the opportunity to take it back or change it,” Kail exclusively told In Touch in August about why she decided to allow Chris to attend Romello Creed’s birth. “I never want my child to question why I didn’t allow their dad to be there. And I feel like, even if things don’t work out with Chris or he decides not to coparent with me … nobody can ever say that I didn’t allow him to be there and to try to be a parent.”
