Feeding a family of 21 is no easy feat, which is why the Duggar kiddos have to get creative when it comes to snack time. Luckily for Jim Bob and Michelle, the Counting On stars share a similar taste in foods. So what do they reach for when the mid-day tummy grumble rolls around? Well, their choices are … interesting. Scroll through the gallery below for more!
Beans, beans, they’re good for a snack? Believe it or not, canned green beans are one of Jill Duggar‘s favorites. “My hubby brought me one of my favorite #studysnacks green beans, salt and vinegar! Yes, you read that correctly!” the mother of two captioned this Instagram shot in September 2016. “Lol been a family fav since I was a kid. My mom called them ‘green french fries.’ [Derick Dillard] thanks, babe!” Bon appétit?

Canned Green Beans — Part 2
But Jill’s not the only one who indulges in the salty treat every now and then. Nay! Anna Duggaradmitted on an episode of 19 Kids and Counting back in 2014 that sometimes life gets chaotic. “We try to have a lot of fruits and vegetables on hand for snack time, but that also means you’re spending a lot of time traveling back and forth to the grocery store,” she said. “So there are times when we’ll have broccoli and carrot sticks for a snack, and there are other times when we’ll pull out a can of green beans because that’s just a little more practical.”

Crackers With Unmelted Shredded Cheese
In the same episode, Anna revealed another go-to munchie. “Let’s do crackers with cheese and you can make different shapes and letters on your crackers out of the cheese,” she told her kids. TBH, shredded cheese on crackers sounds a lil messy — perhaps a slice would be more practical? — but it’s certainly a fun way for the tiny tots to get creative!

Froot Loops, Plantains, Kiwi and … Croutons?
Remember that time Derick made Jill a breakfast consisting of Froot Loops, plantains, croutons and kiwi? Yeah, we do too. “My sweet hubby @derickdillard brought me breakfast in bed. He’s the ‘bestest!'” she wrote on Insta at the time. #NeverForget.

Homemade Slushies
Maybe it’s just me, but slushies freak me out. Perhaps it’s the toxic, chemical-like color of the ones you see churning at 7-Eleven, or the fact that they just taste like garbage and have zero nutritional value, but I digress. The Duggar fam seems to slurp these bad boys up with a lil recipe of their own. Ice, lemon juice and food coloring. *Shudders*

Lemons With Salt
“Enjoying sliced lemons and salt with my big boy while I should be folding laundry lol,” Jill giggled on the ‘Gram. “Anyone else a fan?” Er, no. In fact, her post garnered criticism from trolls. “Maybe with some tequila 😂,” one fan quipped, while another added, “Eating lemons like that strips the enamel off of your teeth.” A third agreed, “My kids used to do this, too, until the day our dentist told us it ruined your enamel.” Welp.

Milked Cucumbers
No, that’s not a typo! The famous fam uses a unique technique to ensure the cucs are as delicious as possible. “I am milking the cucumber,” Jason Duggar said in a clip from 2013. “It takes most of the bitter taste out of the cucumber.” Justin Duggar added, “You cut off the top of the cucumber and you grab the piece you cut off and you start rubbing it on the cucumber. You rub it, and you rub it, and you rub it and you rub it.”
As crazy as it may sound, there could actually be some truth to it. According to Life Hacker, “Rubbing that sliced end against the cucumber will release a white, foamy substance, which contains an organic compound called cucurbitacin. This is the cause of the bitterness. Keep rubbing till it stops producing foam.” Who knew?!

Pickles — Part 1
It’s safe to say the Duggars love three things: Jesus, floor-length skirts and pickles. Jessa Duggar once speculated that their love of the sour treat dates back to Michelle‘s first pregnancy.
“The Duggars love pickles. I think it probably started that when my mom is pregnant she craves pickles, that is the one thing. Every time we see her eating pickles we say ‘Are you pregnant?'” Jessa explained in a 2016 episode of Counting On. So Michelle is literally always, all day, every day, eating pickles. Noted.

Pickles — Part 2
If it isn’t enough that the Duggar babies get force fed pickles in the womb, there’s a formal pickle induction ceremony. “Any time a family member tries a pickle for the first time, we always go around and take videos and pictures and everyone comes around to watch their facial expression,” Joy-Anna added. Recently, Samuel Dillard tried one for the first time and … drumroll please … he loved it.

“Refreshing” Tuna Salad
We never thought “refreshing” and “chicken salad” would appear in the same sentence together, but here we are. Back in May 2018, Jill took to social media to share her recipe, which was met with harsh criticism … and that’s putting it lightly.
“This is such a lazy recipe,” one reddit user said. “Put gross chicken in a bowl and smother with mayo.” Another person called it “nasty,” with a third asking, “Is there a puddle in the middle of that chicken salad?” This receipe, in particular, was made with only five ingredients, which clearly pissed some people off: one can of chicken, mayo, salt, pepper and lemon. “Couldn’t she add some celery and red onion? Some grapes, apples or walnuts?” another user commented. Others were horrified by the fact that she used “canned chicken” instead of rotisserie. Sorry, folks! Some people just aren’t that boujee.

Sweet Potato Fries — Part 1
OK, sure, these sweet potato fries may look pretty decent to us, but not to the trolls of the world! “Those don’t look like fries,” one wrote alongside a laughing emoji back in August, while another chimed in, “Those look like roasted sweet potatoes, not fries.”

Sweet Potato Fries — Part 2
A fan on reddit even commented, “Those ain’t fries. They’re just ugly cut potato chunks.” Sigh. Is there anything people don’t have an opinion on?

Pizza (at 4 a.m.)
Trying to round up 19 kids at 4:30 a.m.? Yeah, it’s not easy. Which is why the self-sufficient youngsters raided the fridge for anything and everything before going on a mission trip back in 2011. “The kids are eating like pizza, tomatoes, corn. Unique stuff for breakfast,” Jinger laughed at the time.
“We’re kind of weird in our family. Most people don’t want to have this for breakfast,” Josiah added while holding up a slice of pizza.

Tomatoes With Salt
The Duggies are known for ingesting copious amounts of salt. In August 2018, Jill received backlash for her high-sodium chicken noodle soup. “This recipe has approximately 2,000 mg of sodium per serving. That’s more than the recommended amount per DAY for an adult,” one person fumed at the time, while another said, “That is full of sodium!”

Breadsticks
“It’s a breadstick,” a young Joy-Anna giggled to the cameras. Hey, whatever gets you through the day!
