Celebrities React to Takeoff Dead: Tributes On His Death

Gone but never forgotten. Migos member Takeoff died on November 1, 2022, after being fatally shot at 810 Billiards & Bowling bowling alley in Houston, Texas, Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed at the time. “[The] male was deceased and identified as Takeoff,” Chief Finner said during a press conference following the rapper’s death. Takeoff – whose birth name was Kirshnik Khari Ball — was only 28 years old.

Fellow celebrities like Khloé Kardashian and Keke Palmer mourned the late rapper’s death online.

Keke posted a photo of the Atlanta native on Instagram alongside a heartfelt message. “This is horrible. From the tragedy of the death to the tragedy of there being a video of it online. It’s all just tragic and I am so sorry to his whole family and all he touched. Really terrible,” she wrote on November 1, 2022, alongside a photo of the late musician.

The same day, musician Teyana Taylor wrote via Instagram, “Please tell me this is just a bad dream pleaseeeeeeee I don’t want to believe this lil bro please.”

On November 11, a funeral service was held in Takeoff’s hometown, Atlanta, Georgia, where multiple celebrities paid touching tributes to the late rapper.

Photos and videos circulated the internet of the horrific incident, which showed fellow Migos rapper and Takeoff’s uncle, Quavo, kneeling over his body. Celebrities quickly shared their disapproval of the graphic and insensitive content online.

“Mannn stop posting/spreading that video of TakeOff’s body on the ground on the internet !!! Do you mf’s have any decency at all ?!?!? F–k !!! Weird ass world !!!!!!” rapper The Game tweeted the day of Takeoff’s death.

Takeoff and Quavo – whose birth name is Quavious Keyate Marshall — were attending a private Halloween party on the third floor of the bowling alley.

The party ended at approximately 1 a.m., according to a spokesperson from the Houston Police Department. However, people were still gathered around the venue for another hour.

“That’s when the shooting occurred,” the spokesperson said, per CNN. “We are still in the process and early stages of this investigation, trying to gather all the information we can, and we are looking to the public’s help.”

Quavo was not harmed during the shooting. The third member of Migos, Offset, who is Takeoff’s cousin, wasn’t at the bowling alley. Instead, he was trick-or-treating with his children and wife Cardi B, as seen on his now-deleted Instagram Stories.

The infamous rap trio began their career in 2008, when they were previously named Polo Club. After dropping their 2013 single “Versace,” they continued to make hit after hit after releasing songs like “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry” and “Motorsport.”

Takeoff and Quavo recently embarked on a duo career with their group name Unc & Phew and released the 2022 hit “Hotel Lobby.”

Quavo

Following Takeoff’s memorial service, Quavo shared a heartfelt note about his bandmate and close family member.

“It’s so hard to tell you I’ma miss you because you always with me and we did everything together,” the “Handsome and Wealthy” rapper shared via Instagram on November 12. “Since we were kids, you been by my side lookin’ up at me, them eyes waiting for me to make the next move … then you followed up right behind me. You never competed with me, we were always on the same team … Super quiet though, quietest in the room but paid attention to everything going in the room, always been like that!!! Nothing ever really bothered Take and he didn’t bother anybody. He the most unbothered person in the world. He never got mad, he ever raised his voice and when he did, he silenced the room.”

Quavo continued, “He never worried about titles, credit, or what man got the most shine, that wasn’t him. He didn’t care about none of that as long as we brought it back home to the family … This whole time I’ve been trying to figure out what you really are to me because nephew wasn’t it. We hated that word “nephew” or when they said “Unc and Phew” cuz we always knew we were way closer than that and it made me feel old too. But I knew you weren’t my brother ‘cause you are my sister’s son, so I couldn’t say brother. Now I finally get it … you are OUR angel.”

“Takeoff, your untimely passing has brought a great deal of pain and sorrow to so many lives,” the “I Like It” rapper captioned a lengthy Instagram post on November 11. “The impact you had in this world was so considerable, and we have struggled to grasp this tragedy. I am heartbroken, but I am grateful for all the precious memories we got to share while you were here with us. This has truly been a nightmare, and the pain is incomparable. The emptiness your brothers are feeling is unbearable, and I pray that you give Offset, Quavo and your friends and family the strength to keep going as they are trying to cope with this loss.”

Cardi continued, “I believe that angels send signs and beautiful dreams to loved ones to assure them that they’re watching them and they’re OK and happy … send your mom some of those. As a Migos fan, it hurts me to look at pictures and videos of y’all together, and hearing y’all songs that changed the music industry and moved the culture and had the clubs lit [sic]. It hurts because I know it will never be the same again, but I know your bros and y’all fans will make sure the world never forgets the impact you made [sic]. I will remember your remarkable talent and your dope ass personality. I pray that you are at peace and in paradise because you deserve every bit of it. I know God opened the heavenly gates for you with a warm embrace. Rest in power, TakeOff.”

During the funeral service, Offset took the stage to speak about Takeoff’s tragic death.

“He changed the culture of music forever,” he said during an emotional speech that was shared via TikTok. “Lord, give us some strength. Just give us some strength … I don’t want to question you, God, but I just don’t get it. I don’t get you sometimes. And I believe in you, Father.”

“Takeoff taking a nap in my studio in Hollywood … I’ve been close with all three guys in the band for years, we were recording ‘Know No Better’ for Major Lazer that night,” he wrote alongside photos and videos of the late rapper. “Woke up today to the news that he passed away … I was heartbroken. After XXX died I moved away from hip hop production because I didn’t feel right seeing all these kids half my age dying over a few dollars .. we gotta make it stop.”

“I had the honor of being on Migos first mixtape back in like ‘09… crazy what they’ve done since. I was so proud of that album Cho and Takeoff just dropped, the bars and production were so mean, I’m just glad he got to experience SOME of his flowers while he was here. RIP Take,” the musician tweeted.
