“8 years together,” the reality star-turned-wrestler, 34, captioned a video showing off a beautiful bouquet of red roses sent by her husband, 34, on October 7. “We are working on it like we always do. #anniversary.”
Paola shared the update on their relationship status after they went through a rough patch just a few months ago. In August, the mom of one and her beau were “on a break” and seeking marriage counseling to overcome struggles in their dynamic.
“During this pandemic, it hit everyone very hard, especially couples who have had to stay indoors with each other 24/7,” Dominique Enchinton, Paola’s manager and owner of Dominion Talent House, exclusively told In Touch at the time. Dominique also brought up how their RV lifestyle made things harder since it didn’t give the couple much space from each other.
“Russ has lost his job during the pandemic, so Paola was the sole breadwinner for the past year,” Dominique added. “With all of that, it’s definitely taken a toll on both of them.” She said that although the reality star parents were at odds, Paola and Russ were “not getting a divorce yet,” adding, “They are still together. They are just taking a break and going to therapy to work through the issues.”
It’s been quite a ride for the Oklahoman groom and his Colombian bride, who first sparked split rumors in August 2021 when she shared a series of cryptic messages.
“Part of the reason why relationships end is that we get caught up in other things, forget to appreciate one another, and sadly, marriage isn’t a priority anymore,” Paola tweeted, later sharing another message, reading, “People asked me why I don’t take pictures with my husband, and my answer is … I just don’t like to pretend [shrugging emoji] #youareguessingright.”
Russ and Paola first met after he traveled to her home country as part of his work as an engineer in the oil industry. After falling in love, Russ and Paola decided to move to the States together. But then Russ was let go from his job, and Paola had trouble finding modeling work in Oklahoma. She suggested they move to Miami, where she might find more work, and Russ reluctantly agreed, even though he had well-founded reservations.
Not long after moving to the Sunshine State, however, Russ tried to persuade his love to move back to Oklahoma, especially because their house back in Oklahoma wasn’t selling. Even worse, Russ clashed with Juan, Paola’s best friend from Colombia, who was also living in Miami. Eventually, Russ found a new job in Miami with a much lower salary, while Paola found a gig modeling in a music video — and posed in lingerie, contrary to Russ’s explicit instructions.
She’s since found a new passion for being a wrestler under the stage name Paola Blaze after becoming a certified personal trainer.
Despite all the hardships she and Russ faced, though, the reality stars have worked to keep their marriage going strong after tying the knot in October 2013. Paola and Russ welcomed their baby boy, Axel, on January 1, 2019.
More recently, Russ showed support to Paola by showing up to one of her wrestling events with their son, and she took to Instagram to express her appreciation, writing, “Thank you for supporting me this long weekend while I was working. No matter the occurrences, I know I can count on you and you on me. #workinprogress.”
