She’s trying to stay strong. Wendy Williams held back tears while opening up about her post-split life on SiriusXM’s The Karen Hunter Show. The talk show host became visibly emotional when asked if she plans to change the last name on credit cards and bank accounts after her divorce with Kevin Hunter.

“No, my name is Wendy Hunter, that’s my son’s name,” Wendy, 55, replied during her vulnerable interview in New York on Tuesday, July 23, before addressing the good times she shared with her former flame. “And you can’t take away twenty … don’t make me cry,” she continued. After catching her breath, Wendy tried to move on from the topic of conversation by responding, “next.”

As far as how she’s coping with her big changes, Wendy said that she’s “happy, healthy and at peace.” However, the TV personality did confess that she’s “going through a situation with [her] family.” When Karen asked “if there’s a chance,” Wendy cut her off and said she understood where Karen was going with that question — presumably if they’ll rekindle their romance down the line.

“No. Don’t ask. No! Girl. No. Don’t ask. I know what you’re saying,” Wendy interjected. She also confirmed they are doing their best to stay amicable, despite the current circumstances. “But my family is good, and we’ll always be family,” the talk show host further explained.

In April, Wendy filed for divorce from her husband, who also served as the executive producer of The Wendy Williams Show, after 21 years of marriage. The exes share one child together, a son named Kevin Jr., and it looks like she’s trying her hardest to embrace this new chapter.

The TV personality recently spoke about her dating life while returning to her show on July 8, after a five-week hiatus. “Well, I’m not on the market anymore,” Wendy said, before a cheering audience. “I don’t know how I’m doing! I’m not in love, but there’s somebody that I’m crazy about.”

Wendy’s interview will air on The Karen Hunter Show Thursday at 5:00pm ET on Urban View.
