Jenelle and her 30-year-old husband, David, share five children together. Jenelle has two sons, Jace and Kaiser, from previous relationships and David has a daughter named Maryssa and a son named Kaden from previous relationships. Together, they share a biological daughter, Ensley.
But since Jenelle does not have custody of 9-year-old Jace and David doesn’t have custody of 5-year-old Kaden, only Kaiser, 5, Maryssa, 11, and Ensley, 2, were home when David allegedly shot and killed their family’s French bulldog, Nugget, on their property.
After that, CPS launched an investigation into the family and they removed Maryssa, Kaiser and Ensley from Jenelle and David’s home. The couple then lost temporary full custody of the children because a judge ruled that Jenelle failed “as a mother to protect her kids,” according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup.
On July 3, after weeks of court hearings, Jenelle regained custody of Maryssa, Kaiser and Ensley after a North Carolina judge dismissed the case. But fans are not convinced that the judge made the right decision, and they have been very vocal about that in Jenelle’s Twitter mentions.
On July 15, Jenelle defended herself after fans claimed she wasn’t a good parent. “None of you can stand the fact my family is back together. I’m a damn good mom, regardless of anyone else’s opinion. Don’t let anyone bring you down! 💓,” she tweeted.
Another fan chimed in, “Good moms don’t get their kids taken away. Just sayin’ …” which prompted Jenelle to hit back, “So I guess Leah’s not a good mom? 🧐 She got her kids taken and given back just like me 🤷🏻♀️.”
At the time, Leah had been struggling with what she would later admit to as a prescription pill dependency and she decided to seek help by entering a rehab program for anxiety and depression. Leah previously had primary custody of their daughters while Corey had weekend visits with the girls. But in 2015, their custody agreement flipped and Corey, 29, was granted primary custody while Leah was able to have weekend visits with their kids. In 2016, the custody agreement was updated again.
“We are doing the week on and then a week off,” Leah clarified to Us Weekly in October 2018. “It’s always been 50/50. People were like, ‘Leah lost custody’ … I almost did, but I never lost custody of my children.”
When fans pointed out that Leah’s custody situation was very different from Jenelle’s, she hit back again. “I know so much more than any of you think. 🧐,” Jenelle tweeted. “Go talk to Corey and Miranda and ask what truly happened.”
Fans then started to tag Leah, to show her Jenelle’s comments and Leah responded in the classiest way. “She’s gotta pin her troubles on someone … why not it be me? 🧐 Worry about what’s good for you and those babies Jenelle. Stop attacking people on social media. 👀❤️,” Leah wrote. “She ain’t worth my time 🧘♀️☺️💕.”
