Is it too late now to say ~sorry~? Selena Gomez wasn’t actively trying to shade her ex Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Baldwin, with her new song “Lose You to Love Me.” A source exclusively dished to In Touch that the songstress simply needed a way to express herself. Her latest track was released on October 23, and the lyrics immediately reminded fans of her longtime on-again, off-again relationship with the Biebs.

“Selena didn’t mean for the song to be shady, but songwriting to her is part of her therapy. So, she had to put it down on paper and release it,” the insider explained about the “Wolves” artist. “That’s part of her process, and it works for her.”

As for the newly minted Mr. and Mrs. Bieber, the source noted that they’re over the attention and drama. “Meanwhile, Justin and Hailey hope this is the last song she has about her ex. They just want Selena to leave them alone,” the source said.

“Lose You to Love Me” had some particular lyrics that seemed to point directly at the pop star, 25. “I gave my all and they all know it/You turned me down and now it’s showing/In two months, you replaced us/Like it was easy/Made me think I deserved it/In the thick of healing, yeah,” the second verse reads. Jelena called it quits for good in March 2018, and by June, he was engaged to the blonde model, 22.

After Selena, 27, dropped the emotional ballad, fans thought Hailey responded by sharing on her Instagram Story that she was listening to “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker. The popular song is about someone trying to protect their relationship … specifically, from other women. “You don’t want no problems, I wish a bitch would/Tryna come between us, it won’t end up good,” Summer sings at one point.

However, the New York native quickly shut down that theory. “Please stop with this nonsense. There is no ‘response.’ This is just complete BS,” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram comment captured by Just Jared on October 23.

While people still can’t quite get over Jelena’s long history, it seems like that chapter in his life is closed. He legally married the model in September 2018 and the couple hosted a lavish wedding in South Carolina with their closest friends and family to cap off their first year of marriage in October 2019. Hailey even admitted that things have gotten “easier” since the beginning and the duo seems to be in good place.

Moving on is hard to do, right?
