Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer reveals her relationship with ex-husband Corey Simms and his wife, Miranda Simms (née Patterson), “prospered in so many ways,” in an exclusive interview with In Touch. “I’m honestly grateful,” she says.

In the past, the MTV alum admits their communication “was kind of closed off” after the difficult experiences they had been through together on the show and behind-the-scenes. The drama led to a family rift they were finally able to overcome.

“It definitely took a toll on our coparenting relationship, and there was a lot of respect lost, reasonably, so I get it,” Leah, 28, tells In Touch. “Now, I can communicate with both of them so effectively.”

The mom of three says it’s “beautiful” to see their kids growing up and learning how to thrive in a blended brood. “I think being in quarantine also shows them how much we really have to work as a team and as a family, and let the past go,” Leah notes.

Leah tells In Touch she will be discussing her addiction issues in season 10, and she is more than “ready” to be an “open book” with viewers. The TM2 alum previously released her memoir titled Hope, Grace & Faith in May, and new episodes will detail her writing process and how she reached a turning point “about a year ago.”

After Corey, 30, and Miranda brought that topic to light on the show, the TV personality says she doesn’t know if it “helped with their relationship.” However, she is grateful to help fans struggling with their own vices by showing her journey.

“I just don’t think someone that is struggling with addiction should be punished at any given time. I think that they should be loved,” she explains. “I think they should be provided resources.”

“But I think we’re all in a much better place and to be able to go back in time and communicate how things could have been [done] a lot differently, [and] how they could have been communicated a lot differently,” Leah tells In Touch. “I think it would provide a lot of light for others that are going through the same thing.”

Season 10 of MTV’s Teen Mom 2 premieres on Tuesday, September 1, at 8 p.m. ET.
