Counting On star Jeremy Vuolo asked wife Jinger Vuolo (née Duggar) and his in-laws to “forgive” him for his “insensitive” tweet about drowning on Wednesday, August 26. The TLC personality revealed he later realized it was too close to home following Grandma Mary Duggar’s accidental drowning in June 2019.

The soon-to-be father of two, 32, expressed his remorse on Thursday, August 27, after initially sharing a clip of a dog rescuing a grasshopper out of a pool by using his mouth.

“Would you rather: a) Drown in a swimming pool; or b) Be crushed by the jaws and teeth of a massive dog-like creature that is 4000x bigger than you. I know, it’s a tough one,” read the now-deleted post, which featured a short video.

It seems the incident involving Mary’s tragic passing was brought to his attention, as he later took to Twitter with an apology to his loved ones. “Yesterday, I retweeted a nature video and made a comment about a grasshopper drowning in a pool. I was not thinking about what happened last summer and, as soon as I realized how insensitive it was, I took it down,” Jeremy began.

The former soccer star said sorry to Jinger, 26, and her family, and asked his fans to forgive him. “It was only a mistake and mistakes happen for everyone,” one of Jeremy’s followers replied. “I commend you for responding to your spirit-led conviction to show love to those you care about the most,” another wrote.

In June 2019, the Duggars released a statement sharing more insight about Mary’s death, while thanking fans for their heartfelt condolences. “Grandma Duggar has had two strokes over the last year and some other medical issues and it’s our understanding that Grandma Duggar had slipped and fallen and passed by the time her daughter found her in the pool,” a rep for the family told Us Weekly

“We’ve been really touched by the outpouring of support and more than a thousand people referred to her as America’s grandma which is a title we hadn’t even given her,” they added. She was 78.

Fans watched as the Duggars mourned the loss of their beloved grandmother in an emotional December 2019 episode of Counting On.
