Showing appreciation. The Duggar family has released a heartfelt statement following Mary Duggar’s death, thanking fans for the supportive messages they have received. While addressing the tragic news, they also confirmed that she passed away from accidental drowning.

“Grandma Duggar has had two strokes over the last year and some other medical issues and it’s our understanding that Grandma Duggar had slipped and fallen and passed by the time her daughter found her in the pool,” a rep for the famous TLC brood revealed to UsWeekly on June 13. “We’ve been really touched by the outpouring of support and more than a thousand people referred to her as America’s grandma which is a title we hadn’t even given her.”

According to the Washington County Coroner Roger Morris, Mary passed away at age 78 after seemingly falling into her swimming pool at her Arkansas-based home on June 9.

Several of the Duggar kids have released sentimental messages since then, discussing their favorite memories with Mary, who worked as real estate broker in Springdale. Jill Duggar posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram page, expressing how heartbroken she was by her grandma’s passing. “She was an amazing woman of God and such a great example to so many,” the Counting On alum wrote in her tribute post, calling Mary a “feisty and incredible woman.”

Josiah Duggar and his pregnant wife shared a statement of their own, and mentioned their first child. “It’s so sweet to know that not only is she with Jesus, but also she is with our sweet baby, Asa in heaven,” the couple concluded the post from their shared Instagram page.

The Duggar family also previously took to Facebook with a message about Mary’s passing. “Mary Lester Duggar grew up in Farmington, Arkansas and was married almost 50 years to J.L. (Jimmy Lee) Duggar who preceded her in death,” the statement read. “Mary found great joy in sharing her love for Jesus and her own story of how at age 15 she asked Christ to forgive her for her sins.”

“It was at that time she committed the rest of her life to live for Him, a commitment she kept with devotion,” the statement continued. “She loved to share with others how they too could be forgiven of their sins, live a fulfilling life as a Christian, and one day spend eternity in heaven.”
