Backtracking. James Charles threw shade at Lauren Conrad for sending him a PR package filled with empty products from her new beauty line, then apologized to the Hills alum over the “misunderstanding.”

“I just opened a PR package from a new makeup brand from somebody who has no business having a makeup brand,” the 21-year-old YouTube glam guru said in an Instagram Live video. He yelled in the camera that it needed to “stop!”

Although he didn’t directly reference the MTV alum, Lauren, 34, later cleared the air about what really happened. “For those asking about the empty components sent to James … let me tell you a funny story,” the TV personality began, revealing she accidentally forgot to take out empty samples after adding them to the bag to make sure they could fit inside.

“She will be let go immediately,” Lauren quipped about her own mistake.

After hearing her explanation, James issued a written apology to the fashion designer on Thursday, August 20, admitting he dealt with a series of unfortunate events leading up to the makeup mishap, which made him react that way.

“I’ve been on the verge of tears all day long from a ton of things going wrong [and] opening her PR package was the icing on the cake of weird things happening today,” he wrote. The former CoverGirl ambassador noted his Stories about the clean and eco-friendly products were meant to be funny, but came across as “nasty” because of the way he said it.

“Lauren and I spoke privately about the misunderstanding and are both good,” he added.

James has a reputation for speaking his mind when it comes to the world of makeup. The social media personality recently made headlines after he blasted Alicia Keys for launching her own collection with e.l.f. Cosmetics, highlighting the songstress is known for her fresh-faced beauty.

“People who do not wear makeup should not be coming out with makeup brands but that’s just my opinion,” he wrote on August 5. Afterward, he seemingly had a change of heart, pointing out he is not “the gatekeeper of makeup.”
