Eric Dane Makes Rare Comment About Infamous Sex Tape With Rebecca Gayheart: ‘I Wasn’t Doing Anything Wrong’
Nothing to see here, folks! Eric Dane got candid about his infamous 2009 sex tape — which showed him with his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and another woman nude in a bathtub — in a new interview.
“I didn’t regret it,” the 46-year-old told Glamour in a profile published on Thursday, August 1. “I have no regrets nor do I make any apologies for my life experience. It’s my life experience, and I am at peace with all of it.”
The Grey’s Anatomy alum — who previously went to rehab for an addiction to painkillers following a sports injury in 2011 — never talked about the incident until 2014. “We’ve all made mistakes. My one regret is that I got the person I love most wrapped up in all that: Rebecca,” he confessed to People at the time.
But the handsome hunk decided to backtrack on his previous comments and clarified what he meant. “I often think about that answer I gave,” he said. “And looking back now, was it a mistake? Absolutely not. Three consenting adults, one of them being my wife? I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was most likely referring to the drug use that was alluded in the video, and was that a mistake? Again, I don’t necessarily think I was breaking any laws and corrupting anybody. We were just three people taking a bath.”
The video showed the California native with his then-wife, Rebecca, and former Miss United States Teen Kari Ann Peniche. “This is simply a private, consensual moment involving a married couple, shot several years ago, which was never intended to be seen by the public,” Eric’s attorney Marty Singer said in a statement. “Although the participants are nude, the tape is not a ‘sex tape.’ It is a private tape made for only my clients’ personal use, and nobody has the right to exploit it.”
The former flames filed a $1 million copyright infringement lawsuit against Gawker Media in September 2010 after the website published the tape. They reportedly received a low six-figure settlement.
The blonde beauty, 47, filed for divorce from Eric in February 2018 after 14 years of marriage. They share two daughters: Billie, 9, and Georgia, 7.
