Did Derick Dillard Really Just Compare Gender Confirmation Surgery to Genital Mutilation?
In today’s “Derick Dillard is a horrible person” news, the former Counting On star spewed even more transphobic garbage on his Instagram page. In his latest tirade, Derick compared gender confirmation surgery to genital mutilation when responding to a fan on Instagram.
“Allowing those decisions at a young age is nothing short of child abuse; it’s genital mutilation,” he wrote in a screenshot captured by a reddit user. “I’m going to stand up and protect children.” Unsurprisingly, followers corrected Derick on this misinformation and his bigotry. “Transgender kids don’t have surgery as minors,” one redditor wrote before another added, “It’s also hypocritical how he critizes everything and everyone for allowing their children to be themselves (transgender, homosexual, not a believer of God, et cetera) while he jams his strong beliefs down the throat of his kids and leaves them no other option than being bigots. He calls it child abuse if a child is allowed to develop his or her own mindset. Alright then.”
This transphobic rant comes just weeks after he called Nate Berkus’ family a “travesty” on Twitter. “It’s sad how blatant the liberal agenda is, such that it both highlights and celebrates a lifestyle so degrading to children on public television as if it should be normal,” he wrote. Nate quickly clapped back at Jill Duggar‘s husband, writing, “My hope with having a show like #NateandJbydesign on TLC, where we go into people’s homes and welcome viewers into ours, is that we can start to break down barriers [and] normalize the way our family looks [and] the way our family loves.”
Derick is also known for his ongoing feud with TLC star Jazz Jennings after he called being transgender a myth. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality,” he said in regards to her show, I Am Jazz. “‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.” Last year, he doubled down on his transphobic views and misgendered Jazz yet again.
“I pity Jazz, [for] those who take advantage of him in order [to] promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions [to] be made by a child,” Derick wrote. “It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on TV these days.”
And Jill seems to be on the same page. Earlier this month, she posted a “list of things to pray for your children” and one of the items was blatantly transphobic as well. “That our boys would be glad to be boys and our girls glad to be girls,” the card read. It’s no surprise Jill and Derick were fired from the network.
