American Idol’s Evelyn Cormier Reveals How ’90 Day Fiancé’ Taught Her How to Deal With Haters

Evelyn made it all the way to the Top 14 on season 17 of American Idol, but she eventually got voted off during the first week of the live shows.

And even though judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie had a final say, neither of them decided to save Evelyn, but they had some very sound advice for her before she went home.

“I’m in shock. I’m a fan. There’s so many opinions in the world. But let me just tell you now. This is not the end by any chance, this is probably the beginning of your long career. I love your voice. And I love how you delivered tonight,” Lionel, 69, said.

“I think you’re a super pro. It’s crazy to go, ‘Hey! Rejection! Sing!’ It’s like, ‘Haha, this is such a weird thing to do.’ But you were such a pro, you were graceful, you are beautiful, I am a huge fan of you. I think that you are on your way to becoming a spectacular artist,” Katy, 34, said.

“I think, kind of what American may be doing, is I think you have some people that like your style and some people that it’s not their thing. But that has never stopped artists from going on to be something very undeniable in their lane. So don’t take America’s vote and let it start changing what you are,” Luke, 42, said.

And Luke may be right. Throughout her run on Idol, Evelyn seemed to have two types of reactions: some people absolutely loved her and compared her voice to pop icon Cher, but others? Not so much.

“I can’t be the only one who doesn’t like Evelyn…. Right? #AmericanIdol,” one fan tweeted.

“She sounds like a moose. #evelyn #AmericanIdol,” another viewer wrote on Twitter.

But in an exclusive interview with In Touch, Evelyn opened up about how her time on 90 Day Fiancé prepared her for her time on Idol.

“I feel like being on another TV show has prepared me for being on Idol. One thing is I am used to the long hours of filming. I don’t think people truly understand what goes into creating a TV show. There is a lot of waiting around so you need to be patient. I think also, I am comfortable in front of the cameras because of having that experience with [90 Day Fiancé.]”

“I think one of the biggest things that being on another show that has prepared me for Idol is all the attention you get from the world — good and bad,” she added.

She then revealed how she learned to handle that negativity from haters online.

“I learned early on that haters and trolls really don’t care about the truth,” Evelyn told In Touch.

“It is a waste of time trying to get them to understand you or realize there is a bigger picture to what they think is reality,” she explained.

“So when a troll strolls in and says something vile or negative — all I do now is block and delete them — super simple,” she continued.

“I don’t have time for hate and negativity in my life and I would rather spend my energy loving on the ones who love me,” she added.
