Best hubby ever! 90 Day Fiancé alum Evelyn Cormier made her big return to reality TV when she auditioned earlier this season on American Idol, and she’s been consistently crushing it every week and advancing in the competition. But the only downside of making it into the Top 20 is that Evelyn, 19, is forced to be physically separated from her husband, David Vázquez Zermeño, for a long period of time. The couple is temporarily in a long distance marriage as Evelyn follows her dreams, and in an exclusive interview with In Touch, she opened up about how supportive David, 28, has been during her American Idol journey. On Tuesday April 2, Evelyn took to Instagram to reveal that she had finally reunited with her husband, David, for the first time since she jetted off to Los Angeles for Hollywood week.

The couple starred together on season 5 of TLC’s hit reality TV series 90 Day Fiancé, which features couples who are made up of one American and one foreigner who are engaged and going through the process to obtain a K-1 visa (a.k.a the fiancé visa) for their partner. The K-1 visa allows a foreigner to enter the United States legally as the fiancé of a United States citizen. Once they land in America, the couple has 90 days to get married, and if they don’t, the foreigner has to return to their home country.

Evelyn met David online, and the couple started an online, long distance relationship. Evelyn eventually decided to visit David in his native country of Spain to meet him in person for the first time. Toward the end of their trip, David proposed to Evelyn and he traveled to the United States with the K-1 visa. David and Evelyn tied the knot on October 21, 2017, and they are currently living together in Evelyn’s hometown of Claremont, New Hampshire.

But in an exclusive interview with In Touch, Evelyn revealed that the couple was forced into spending time apart while she is away competing in the competition, and she opened up about their temporary long distance marriage.

“My husband, David, is the one working right now to make it possible for me to chase my dreams on American Idol,” Evelyn exclusively revealed to In Touch. “That comes with its sacrifices like he hasn’t been able to be there with me for the full duration and it can be difficult to be separated for such long periods of time.”

“Long distance is no foreign concept for us though. [The] beginning of our relationship was long distance and we navigated our way through that,” Evelyn continued. “This time David isn’t in Spain, he’s at home in New Hampshire making it possible for me to live my dream. I love him and I know that our sacrifices will pay off.”

Despite the distance, David and Evelyn are making it work and she gushed over her super supportive hubby.

“My husband, David, has been a huge supporter of my music since the beginning of our marriage. He believes in me, my dreams and wants to see me achieve them,” Evelyn gushed.

“I couldn’t be on American Idol if it weren’t for David — he is working so hard to provide for me behind the scenes to help me reach my goals! I’m so blessed to have that kind of love and support backing me up,” she added.

But David isn’t the only person that Evelyn left behind in New Hampshire — she’s also far away from her mom, her dad and her brother. Evelyn’s family is very close and she even plays in a family band with her brother and father.

And as Evelyn continues to advance in the competition — she’s currently in the Top 20 — many fans are wondering what will happen to her family band.

“No matter what happens on American Idol, I will continue recording and playing with my family band,” Evelyn told In Touch. “We serve on the worship team together at our church — as long as I am in the area. My plans are to continue recording with my current producer and to use my family as some of the musicians on my tracks.”

“They are very important to me especially my brother, Solomon, who is a gifted pianist who collaborates with me a lot on my music,” Evelyn continued. “That kind of musical relationship is not easy to come by or recreate with other people.”

As for Evelyn, she may not know yet what the future holds for her and the rest of her journey on American Idol, but she’s not letting that uncertainty stop her from dreaming big.

“My ultimate goal and dream by winning Idol would be to be a full-time musician,” Evelyn told In Touch. “I want to spend my days creating, recording, and releasing music. I would love to have fans waiting and anticipating my next single and to be a role model and inspiration for upcoming musicians.”

“I want to share my art with the world. A painter doesn’t paint a painting and then put in his closet when he is done. He wants to put it on a wall and display it for others to appreciate,” she added. “That is what I most desire to do — display my art for others to enjoy.”
