Heading for splitsville? 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After star Asuelu Pulaa left his wife, Kalani Faagata, and their two children after a series of tense fights over their roles in their marriage during the Sunday, July 5 episode.

Kalani, 31, explained Asuelu, 24, was still upset because she refused to travel to his home country of Samoa to visit his family with their sons, Oliver and Kennedy, because of a measles outbreak. Instead, the couple decided to travel from their home in Utah to California to celebrate Oliver’s second birthday during a weekend getaway.

Asuelu complained that Oliver was crying during their car ride, so Kalani told him they should switch places so he could care for their sons. Even though Asuelu was reluctant, he eventually agreed. Things got tense when Kalani asked how he was doing in the backseat.

“I’m doing alright. This is very easy,” he said. “You think my job is easy?” Kalani asked. He nodded yes. Kalani’s mom, who was driving, jumped in and asked if Asuelu thought whether all women’s jobs were easy or if it was just Kalani’s. “Women’s job,” Asuelu answered.

Both women were shocked by his answer, and Kalani’s mom asked if he felt that way about women from his country. Asuelu said he thought American women’s jobs were easier than women’s jobs in Samoa.

In his confessional, Asuelu explained he felt women’s jobs were easier in America because they had washers, dryers and dishwashing machines to do most of the chores while they can sit their children down in front of TVs.

Of course, Kalani took offense. “So who’s been up every single night with both of our sick kids and I’m sick too?” she asked from the front seat. “You, and I woke up sometimes,” Asuelu answered, and Kalani called him a liar.

“Lying bitch,” Asuelu told his wife. Kalani asked Asuelu if he thinks her job is so easy, then why doesn’t he help and he said because taking care of children and the household is a “woman’s job.” When she laughed, he responded, “And the sound of your voice is so f—king annoying, too.”

That’s Kalani’s mom jumped in to defend her daughter. She asked Asuelu if he would speak to Kalani that way in front of his own mother. “It’s my wife. I can talk whatever [I want],” he said. “Okay, then talk that way in front of her and in front of my husband, then,” Kalani’s mom snapped. “Give me a break. You’re disrespectful to me and I don’t like the way you’re talking to my daughter.”

The family made it to their destination safely, but things were still tense. Kalani tried to talk things out with Asuelu in private in the backyard of their rental, but it led to another fight. Kalani called Asuelu a “manipulator” because he kept changing the subject. “Why do you use those expensive words? You think I’m a boy [who] comes here and expects [sic] those words?” he asked.

“I would expect a Samoan boy to come here and turn into a man, how about that?” she snapped before walking away. In his confessional, Asuelu said it was hard for him to express himself in America because of his limited English skills. He felt Kalani doesn’t understand him because of their language barrier.

After their second fight, Asuelu went inside, grabbed his belongings and left without telling his wife where he was going. Oliver followed Asuelu, but Asuelu didn’t even look back. Kalani called after her husband, but he kept walking so she turned around and went back inside their rental. “He started walking down the street. I can’t chase him with my child, that’s ridiculous,” Kalani told her mom once she was back inside.

Production followed Asuelu and found him at a nearby bus stop. He told the crew to take his mic pack from him, then he boarded a bus back to Utah. It seems like fans will have to wait until next week to see if Kalani and Asuelu will be able to work things out.
