People are not happy with Tyler Baltierra at the moment. The Teen Mom OG star shared a photo of his daughter Nova riding a horse on May 5, which sounds like it would elicit all sorts of “awws” in his Instagram comments. Unfortunately, not so. Fans took issue with Tyler, 27, not requiring his daughter to wear a helmet for the occasion. Scroll through our gallery below to see what they said.
There’s no doubt that Tyler is a doting dad to his daughters, Nova and newborn Vaeda.

Dad Win
For instance, when Tyler and Cate bought Nova her first pony, most fans thought it was the cutest thing ever. “Making Novalee’s dream come true today [and] watching her face light up with pure bliss was so humbling as a father but also made me feel so proud of raising such a loving, caring [and] free-spirited little girl that I am blessed to love [and] cherish,” Tyler wrote at the time. “She felt extra special today [and] I live for moments like this as a Dad!”

Nothing Wrong With That
There’s nothing wrong with that sentiment, right? Well, it wasn’t the caption that fans had an issue with.

No Helmet?
Fans were actually concerned with Nova’s attire in the shot. As you can see above, the little girl is not wearing a helmet while riding her pet. And as seemingly gentle as the creature appears, that could spell trouble if it got spooked.

Always
Others were a little more harsh with the MTV star. “A child should always wear a helmet, western, English, or otherwise,” one person wrote. “Accidents happen, and until she’s old enough to make the decision on her own if she wants to protect her melon her parents should always have a helmet on her.”

“All It Took”
They continued, “A professional rider who has been on the Canadian show jumping team passed away because his horse tripped on a trail ride and he died from a head injury. Tripped. That’s all it took.” Yikes.

Simple
Another fan wrote to Tyler, “Kid should be wearing a helmet plain and simple. What happens when the pony scoots out from under her. Coming from someone who has climbed trees and fences and jumped outta them but I have also done eventing, barrel racing and worked cows. I don’t wear a helmet now which I should but I have had more serious concussions riding horses and coming off she should be in a helmet.”

Understanding
The person added, “Until she’s old enough to make her own choices and understand the risks she needs a helmet. Also, most insurance companies won’t cover horse accidents to riders under 18 not wearing a helmet.” Eek, good to know.
