He’s got quite the past. On Sunday, Dec. 9, hip-hop star Nicki Minaj went Instagram official with her new boyfriend Kenneth Petty, and there was a bit of a mixed reaction from Nicki’s faithful Barbz. But now, according to a new report by Radar Online, Nicki’s fans were right to be wary of her new man because Kenneth has quite the sordid criminal history as a registered sex offender and his rap sheet includes a conviction for one count of first-degree rape.

Kenneth was arrested on Sept. 16, 1994, by the New York City Police Department Sex Offender Unit for “sexual intercourse” with a 16-year-old female, according to New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services documents obtained by Radar. Kenneth, who is now 40 years old, was about 16 years old at the time. In the original record of his conviction, Kenneth, who is 5′ 9″ and weighs 170 pounds, used a “knife/cutting instrument (e.g., ax, ice pick, screwdriver, switchblade, Kung Fu stars, cane sword, etc.)” during the attempted rape.

He was convicted of first-degree attempted rape on April 5, 1995, and he was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison. But that wasn’t Kenneth’s only conviction. In 2006, the music industry professional was found guilty of manslaughter and he spent seven years in prison. He was released in 2013.

But despite his past, Nicki seems to be smitten with her new man. In their first-ever official photo together on Instagram, the 36-year-old held her leg up against Kenneth in a super sexy pose, and she captioned the shot: “Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happens?…it’s no secret…that both of us…are running out of time….” Fans flooded the comments and many of them don’t approve of Nicki’s relationship with Kenneth, and eventually, the “Barbie Dreams’ rapper was forced to turn off the comments on the post to avoid the backlash.
