She chose this hospital! Kendra Caldwell and Joe Duggar welcomed their son, Garrett David Duggar last month on June 8, but TLC just released a two-part special titled “Joe and Kendra’s First Baby,” which gave fans an inside look into the hours leading up to and after baby Garrett’s birth. The special also confirmed fan suspicions that Kendra decided to give birth in a hospital rather than at home with a midwife like the rest of her Duggar sisters-in-law. Watch the video above to see for yourself!

In part one of the special, Kendra and Joe sat with Kendra’s sister and mother as she waitied for her contractions to get strong enough to go to the hospital after spending a couple of days in pre-labor. It seemed like Kendra has always planned for a hospital birth, and at around 2 a.m., her contractions were getting stronger so it was time to head to the hospital.

Fans first noticed that Kendra had opted to give birth in a hospital when photos of Joe, Kendra, and their son were posted online. “Hopefully it was a planned hospital birth, and not another home birth gone wrong. Kendra looks great, and the baby is adorable,” one person wrote on reddit. Another said, “Joe has always seemed like a nice and reasonable guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had planned on a hospital birth all along because he wanted Kendra and the baby to be safe, especially after his sisters’ disasters.”

Traditionally, the Duggar family delivers their children in the home with the help of a midwife — only making a trip to the hospital in emergency situations. And, recently, they have had to call in some medical professionals. Joe’s sister Jessa Duggar needed to be rushed to the hospital after having her first baby at home when she started bleeding so much that her midwife became concerned.

“I tried to keep my head, I was awake and alert,” Jessa previously told People about the complicated delivery. “I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that. And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock.” After almost fainting, Jessa needed a blood transfusion and actually stayed overnight at the hospital.

But thankfully, Kendra had a safe delivery and it seems like mom and baby are doing just fine. We can’t to see more pictures of baby Garrett!
