They’re thinking about making a new addition to their family! Former Counting On star Jill Dillard (née Duggar) took to Instagram on Saturday, September 29, to reveal she and her husband, Derick Dillard, are planning to adopt a dog for their sons, Samuel and Israel. The 28-year-old asked her followers for some advice about what type of dog they should welcome into their family of four.

“So … my hubby and I have been talking about possibly … maybe … someday … maybe … getting the boys a dog. 💙👏🏼 Okay, so maybe for Christmas, but IDK. 🙈,” Jill wrote in the caption of a cute photo of Sam, 2, and Israel, 4, posing with puppies. “Anyways, we wanted to get y’all’s thoughts & tips on best kid-friendly medium/big sized dogs and why … and any other tips for adopting a rescue dog and/or anything else helpful to think about! 🤗 🙊And shhh, don’t tell the boys. lol 🤫.”

She urged fans to share their suggestions in the comments section, and she got a ton of helpful responses. Some of the breeds fans suggested were Shih-poos (Shih Tzu-Poodle mix), Boxers, Australian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, and a few other kid-friendly breeds.

Other fans urged Jill and Derick, 30, to make sure they adopt a pet instead of purchasing one from a breeder. “We have 3 rescues and they are the most loving dogs!” one fan wrote, and another commented, “Rescue dogs!! There are so many that need homes.”

If Jill and Derick decide to adopt a fur baby, the new pet would have lots of other dogs to play with! Jill’s sister, Jana Duggar, is a dog mom to an adorable white dog named Willow and their sister, Jessa Seewald (née Duggar), introduced fans to the pup via Instagram in September 2018. Jessa, 26, shared cute photos of her son, Spurgeon, playing with Willow and when fans took to the comments to ask Jessa if it was her dog, she responded, “It’s Aunt Jana’s dog. ☺️❤️”

Spurgeon, 3, Israel and Samuel aren’t the only Duggar grandkids who like dogs. Joy-Anna Forsyth (née Duggar) revealed her son, Gideon, has a love for pups via Instagram earlier this week, but she came under fire because fans felt Gideon was making his dog pal “uncomfortable” with too many hugs.

Fans will just have to wait and see if the Dillard family decided to add a furry friend as their fifth family member in the future.
