Things are changing. Kate Plus 8 did a special college tour episode to show how Kate Gosselin’s oldest kids, Mady and Cara, prepared to leave for school, and Kate, 44, spoke about how one of her daughters, Hannah, did not come on the featured trip. “So I noticed Hannah’s not here right now,” a producer asked the reality TV mom. “She’s with her dad [Jon Gosselin] and she was not able to come,” Kate replied. “And that’s sad. That’s the second trip here, actually, for us that she hasn’t been with us.”

Kate continued in a confessional, “Hannah … it was sad for us because … you know, they’re getting older, and they’re making different choices, and they’re doing different things. And she opted to stay back with her dad, actually. Which again, you know, her choice. Whatever. It’s not optimal for Mom. But it’s something that I support. And you know, we just, adjust and move on.”

Hannah, 15, currently lives with her dad, as does her brother, Collin. A source told Life & Style in September 2018,Kate is trying to be supportive of the situation, but the truth is, she hates that Hannah chose Jon over her. The problem is that the kids are getting older and they’re starting to ask questions. Some are still Team Mom, but Team Dad is growing. It’s a very divided household.”

Then, Radar Online reported in August 2019 that an insider told the outlet Kate “has made no attempt to see or speak with Collin,” but has kept in touch with Hannah. However, they noted that the mom hasn’t attempted to regain custody of either of the kids. “[She] rarely sees or talks with Hannah, but they do have some contact,” the source explained. “Jon allows her to go over anytime she wants, but Kate never asks her to come.”

Finally, in September 2019, Jon claimed in an interview with DailyMailTV that his ex-wife mistreated their kids and specifically “mentally abused and alienated” Hannah. “I know my children have suffered abuse and I know one day they’re going to tell their own story,” Jon said. (Kate Gosselin did not immediately respond to In Touch’s request for comment regarding Jon’s claims.)

So, what’s the real story here? Why did Hannah choose not to join her mom and siblings for the college tour? Unless she explains her reasons herself, the rest of us may never know for sure.
