That’s what friends are for! Dwayne Johnson gave an update on Kevin Hart‘s ongoing recovery from injuries sustained during a car accident on the Monday, September 9, premiere of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The comedian was actually supposed to appear on the talk show himself, but due to his injuries, he was unable to attend. The 47-year-old filled in for his pal and actually left his honeymoon early to be by Kevin’s side.

“Everything is good, I spoke with Kevin, I actually refer to him as my son,” Dwayne told Kelly of Kevin’s condition. “I connected with him today.”

“And you know what? These things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat,” the former wrestler joked, poking fun at his friend’s signature stature adding that he “spoke to his pediatrician.”

All kidding aside, Dwayne reported that the 40-year-old is “doing very well and he was bummed” he couldn’t guest star on the show. He continued, “I love the guy, he is one of my best friends, and honestly, I mean, thank God, it could have been a lot worse, so he is a lucky man and he knows it too.”

“I wish him the best and a speedy recovery,” added the studly actor. In Touch confirmed that Kevin was involved in an early-morning car accident in Malibu on September 1. Kevin was in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda with two other passengers. The car lost control and went off the side of the road and rolled over into an embankment. He was not driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The comedian sustained a back injury and TMZ reported he did need surgery which was thankfully a success. His wife, Eniko Hart, confirmed he is “Going to be just fine,” adding, “He’s good. Everybody’s good, thank God. That’s it. He’s fine. He’s awake.”

Dwayne was one of the many celebrities to send Kevin well wishes. “Stop messing with my emotions, brother @kevinhart4real,” he wrote on Instagram on September 2. “We have a lot more laughing to do together. Love you, man. Stay strong.”
