This is new for him! Kevin Hart announced on Instagram on March 11 that he’s doing his first Netflix standup special, Kevin Hart: Irresponsible. We won’t even have to wait long to see it — it drops on the streaming service very soon! The comedian’s announcement came not long after the controversy surrounding his recent lost Oscars hosting gig, but it certainly doesn’t appear to have cost him any work as a jokester.

Kevin, 39, made the announcement by sharing a short video to Instagram with the caption, “Mark your calendars d–n it. My comedy special will be dropping on April 2nd on Netflix. I can’t wait … Let’s gooooooo #Irresponsible #ComedicRockStarS–t #Netflix.” He also directed his Twitter followers to the post. That’s as good a way as any to let his fans know about his big new project! They definitely seemed excited in the comments of the social media update.

“Can’t wait to watch it 😍😍😍,” one of Kevin’s Instagram followers wrote. Another said, “Been waiting for this 🙌.” Several people also noted that they’d attended the comedian’s live standup shows and were excited to see his set again in the special.

The Netflix special comes after Kevin announced — also on his official Instagram — that he would host the Oscars for the first time, only to step down after some homophobic tweets he wrote in the past resurfaced. He wrote on Twitter on December 6, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s … this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing, talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

As much as that whole scandal may have cost Kevin the Academy Awards hosting gig, it doesn’t seem to have hurt his overall career. A Netflix special is nothing to sneeze at, after all! And it sounds like a lot of his fans will tune in. Did you mark your calendar?
