It’s OK to make mistakes. Demi Lovato took to her Instagram Story to open up about her relapse and ongoing journey to sobriety on March 15. “Today I Would’ve had 7 years sober. I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes, but I must never forget that’s what they were: mistakes,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. The 26-year-old had been sober for six months before she relapsed in the summer of 2018.

The “Tell Me You Love Me” singer continued her post by sending an emotional tribute to Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics, thanking the groups for never giving up on her. “Grateful that AA/NA never shuts the door on you no matter how many times you have to start your time over,” she wrote. “I didn’t lose 6 years; I’ll always have that experience but now I just get to add to that time with a new journey and time count.”

Demi was thrown into the spotlight at such a young age as a Disney Channel star, before becoming a pop sensation. The “Lovatics” may be the most loyal fans out there and have been with her through all of the ups and downs. The star has used her platform to make a difference in the world and to reach out to others who have the same struggles with addition. “If you’ve relapsed and are afraid to get help again, just know it’s possible to take that step towards recovery. If you’re alive today, you can make it back. You’re worth it,” the songstress added to her post.

On July 24, the Camp Rock alum almost lost her life, after suffering from a terrifying drug overdose at her home in Los Angeles. The New Mexico native was immediately rushed to the hospital after she was found unconscious in her home. Demi’s friends administered Narcan to help save their friend’s life, a source told Us Weekly at the time. The star remained in the hospital for nearly two weeks, before she checked herself into an in-patient rehab facility for 90-days.

Thankfully, The Sonny With a Chance alum is beaming with positive power these days. In January 2018, she celebrated the milestone of being six months sober — and even shared how her loved ones helped her celebrate. Demi posted a delicious looking cake to her IG story, which her team had given her with the caption: “Best Day Ever.” Demi is most definitely on the road to success.
