Britney Spears’ Mother, Lynne, Asks Judge to Step in Amid Her Mental Health Battle
Mama is trying to step in. Pop star Britney Spears has been struggling with mental health issues over the past few weeks and her mother, Lynne Spears, is taking the necessary steps in order to be a part of her conservatorship, according to documents obtained by In Touch. On Tuesday, May 7, the 64-year-old filed documents asking the courts to grant a judge the authority to make a decision for the 37-year-old that would be in her best interests.
Lynne’s attorney filed an ex parte application, and according to the docs, “ex parte relief is available in exigent circumstances if there is an affirmative factual showing based on personal knowledge of irreparable harm or immediate danger to the conservatee or estate.” Lynne’s attorney also filed a declaration of urgency, which would allow her lawyer to attend the upcoming Status Hearing in Britney’s conservatorship on Lynne’s behalf. The court hearing is set for Friday, May 10.
Britney’s estate has been controlled by a co-conservatorship between her father, Jamie Spears, and her attorney, Andrew Wallet, ever since the “Toxic” singer’s 2007 mental health breakdown. Since then, Jamie and Andrew have made all of the major decisions concerning Britney’s life, career and her finances. But Andrew resigned as Britney’s co-conservator back in March, as In Touch previously reported, leaving Jamie as Britney’s sole conservator. Earlier this week, Lynne filed a request for special notice in all matters of the conservatorship.
But Jamie struggled with health issues over the past few months and in the midst of her dad’s health battle, Britney’s mental health took a turn for the worse. Multiple sources confirmed to In Touch that Britney checked herself into a wellness center in early April for treatment. She checked out three weeks later, and she took to Instagram to assure fans that she is doing okay.
“Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me,” she said in the clip. “All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal, but don’t worry, I’ll be back very soon.”
Now, it seems like Lynne is making sure she’s kept up to date with her daughter’s affairs to ensure that she is getting the proper care.
